I join in the RIP. Often disagreed with him ideologically but he always seemed like a relatively honest, conscientious and well-meaning politician.

I wonder if Ed Koch arrived at the pearly gates saying "It's me! Mayor Koch...I'm here!"
All jokes aside though...sad to hear of his passing. He was a Democratic politician I've always respected and would have voted for.

Looking back it is hard to believe he got beat by Dinkins. He got his revenge when he backed Rudi

A rare politician who wasn't full of sh*t.
He took on the unions big time, and for that alone I would strike the 'liberal' tag from his handle.
From the lib huffington post obit..
"Suddenly inspired to do something brash about the rare transit strike that crippled the city in 1980, he strode down to the Brooklyn Bridge to encourage commuters who were forced to walk to work instead of jumping aboard subway trains and buses.
"I began to yell, `Walk over the bridge! Walk over the bridge! We're not going to let these bastards bring us to our knees!' And people began to applaud," the famously combative, acid-tongued politician recalled at a 2012 forum."

He was a colorful and interesting character. Also, for a left-wing Democrat, he was a far-right Republican.

Well he would take exception to that. He referred to himself as "a Liberal with sanity." LOL! His sanity differentiated him from the typical Liberal. Gotta love the candor.

Did the mods do some stealth editing here? I don't think that my post fell afoul of any rules...

I just heard this on local radio news and then I saw it on FNC TV on their ticker.
Ed Koch, former New York City Mayor, age 88 has died of congestive hearty failure.
I never lived in New York City but I have heard from those that have that Ed Koch was highly regarded and most thought he did a very good job as Mayor.
