I could be wrong, but reading the game thread, it seemed he gave up the 2 run HR late that tied the game 4-4. Might have been a save opportunity, might have just been a hold, but either way if I read it right, not good. Not ragging on the kid, he has good stuff, but needs to improve his location, especially once he is ahead in the count(imo).

As for starters not going 6 innings this early in the year, I get the coaches' style, but 6 innings is not too much this early in the season depending on pitch count. Heck, 5 solid innings would be great at this point. The lack of innings from the starters has more to do with performance than a pitch count anyway. And Yea, this team really misses Whitson. It's early, but there are some pretty ugly ERAs out there. Hopefully, Crawford can step up this weekend against the Canes, who are undefeated last I checked.

Finally, it's way too early to give up on anybody, but I would fully expect some lineup changes this weekend. On the positive side, Powers has come back from injury quite nicely and is looking good. Both he and Ramjit need to be in the lineup imo.

I really thought the difference might be the depth in pitching staff...but FGCU got the complete game Fri night, kind of ran away on Satuday, and then got a good start on Sunday and used their stud closer to throw a lot of pitches. So basically we didn't get to their pen, other than the one kid on Sunday who is an absolute stud. We simple were not able to exploit what I think is their weakness because we couldn't get deep into their pen.
Their lineup features plenty of 3rd and 4th year guys that can swing it. Dwyer is a 3 year starter that had pretty good MLB options out of high school. If they can ride the starting pitching plus that closer they are going to win a lot of games.

however....we should be lighting up FGCU bullpen pitching. getting swept by the eagles certainly becomes a low 'reset' point for the program following the success of consecutive trips to omaha. but, just from the eye test, FGCU looks to be a pretty darn solid ball club - certainly better than us at this stage. might be interesting to monitor them and see where they get slotted in the ncaa's. don't we get another crack at them in april? will be interesting to see if we've advanced any - to gauge on our progress in a month of play.

Aw I miss the WES humor. I could go for some postgame at Dockside right about now. Admittedly it is 10PM in Kiev so postgame Dockside seems more reasonable on my side of the pond than G-ville right now.

I personally think UF is just setting up the rest of the teams for over confidence. Basically, we are sick of being the hunted so we figured a rough start would allow us to be the predator rather than the prey. I like the strategy. Worst case scenario, 7 losses on the year and the SWAC wins their 3rd NC.
