Oz the Great and Powerful
Anyone seen it?
I saw it last night. It was pretty solid but nowhere near the same as The Wizard of Oz.

I saw it and enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it was a great movie, but it was fun entertainment.
However, it is nowhere near a classic.

These comments sound about like the reviews it's getting. Too bad. I really like James Franco. Probably wasn't going to see it anyway. Those flying monkeys still scare the crap out of me. Something very primal and subconscious from my childhood.
People shouldn't have high expectations for films released this time of year. It usually means the studios don't have high hopes. Starting to lower my expectations for The Great Gatsby.

The return to oz with faruza balk remains the movie that freaked me out more than any other as a kid. Can't even watch it to this day still too scurred.

The trailer for The Great Gatsby didn't look too promising, IMO.

Franco mailed this one in. He's a severely limited actor to begin with, but he slept walked this one. And the script itself was less than inspiring.
Not sure who would have been a worse Wizard...Franco or Keanu Reeves.
All that said, the movie wa still ok. Not a classic, but had some beautiful imagery and enough decent scenes to make Oz lovers fork over the $ to see it in theatre. But go see it now before it gets relegated to the smaller screen theatres wherever you go.

Neither did I, not my cup of tea, but he signed for a percentage of the box office. Estimated windfall was supposedly somewhere around $250 million from what I read. He won't ever have to take an acting class, again. :-)
