Shabazz isn't who you think he is...
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-f...635,full.story
An article that suggests that Shabazz Muhammad of UCLA is indeed older than he claims to be.
Between this and Jordan Adams being out, I'd love to meet them in the second round.

I would love to play UCLA too but who cares if he's older than he claims? This is Little League baseball.

Not so much a physical issue but a character one. From the sounds of it, this is more on his crazy dad than it is him. These are the kind of guys I wish they'd just let go pro.

Exactly, claiming to be younger is about conning the NBA into believing he has more years until his skills erode. It has nothing to do with college basketball. BTW, isn't it Jordan Adams not Kyle Anderson who is out?

It may be that but it was more about letting him play against younger kids when he was growing up. When you're say 13 but playing in a 12-and-under league you have a big advantage. I'm not sure the NBA cares whether he's 19 or 20.

The university's strategy to land Muhammad included hiring assistant coach Phil Mathews from the University of Nebraska in early 2010. Known as a strong recruiter, Mathews gave UCLA a distinct edge in the pursuit of Muhammad — he was friendly with the player and his father. His son Jordan played alongside Muhammad on the Dream Vision team. That allowed Mathews to attend practices and games that were off-limits to other recruiters under NCAA rules.
UCLA last year paid him $205,000. That's about $50,000 more than the school's second-highest-paid assistant and 60% more than what Mathews had been making at Nebraska.

UCLA is very dirty.

For some reason, I bet that coach is still making the same amount as he was at Nebraska when all is said and done...

I would think one issue with a player's age being younger than it truly is that teams probably recruit and draft based on potential. Take (2) similar players in every respect except one is younger than the other by a year or more. The younger player would probably been seen as having more potential.

My favorite part of that article was Muhammad's dad trying to bribe the reporter into not revealing the age issue by offering him a job as Shabazz's publicist.

Looks like Shabazz's college career is ending in about 3 minutes.
