CALLING OUR EXPERTS: Current Breakdown?
Came here looking for a breakdown of how all of this week's losses by other high-ranked teams should affect our various final rankings with a win or loss tomorrow by us and the same for the remaining teams, etc. I found a little but would love to see a lot more.
It's exciting to look at last Sunday's rankings and see a bunch of losses ahead of us. That makes me think we may see dramatic moves up with a possible win and maybe even a couple more big names drop below us like Miami and Ohio State if they lose tomorrow.
Another thought was that if it were a normal poll week, it seems certain to me that we would leapfrog a bunch of names in the polls and the rankings, particularly with the added wins that may go into the formula vs teams that did not get those Ws, etc.

My Current 1-4 Seedings (As Rankings going into the tournament mean even less then they usually do)
1- Gonzaga, Louisville, Indiana & Kansas
2- Georgetown, Duke, Miami & Mich St
3- Florida, New Mexico, Ohio St & Michigan
4- Wisconsin, Syracuse, St Louis & Kansas St
Projecting who goes into what bracket is even more of a crap shoot then the seedings, so I won't do that

I'm not an expert but my gut feeling is we're pretty well locked into a 3-seed at this point with an outside shot of a 2-seed, but I think it's unlikely with all the teams ahead of us.
1 seeds, depending on games still going on and to be played tomorrow, will likely go to:
Gonzaga, Indiana, Duke/Miami, Kansas/Louisville
The non 1-seed of Duke/Miami and Kansas/Louisville will likely get a 2-seed. Ohio State probably played themselves into a 2-seed this week or so with a win tomorrow. Then we have to contend with a bunch of teams for that last 2-seed.

I think we will be on the two line with a win tomorrow. Need OSU to lose tomorrow.

Does the Selection Committee historically put more weight on the power rankings, RPI, BPI, efficiency (we're very high in offense and defensive categories), winning possibly BOTH a major conference's regular and post-season championships than we may be weighting?
If so, and we look less at the AP and Coaches rankings (which could also be much higher if there is one more poll out tomorrow?), wouldn't we be looking at a much better seed than we may be expecting based on the typical pundit's rhetoric? I've seen posts to this effect that made me wonder if that's the case and not abandon hope of a low(?) 1 or high(?) 2. Seems deserved when you compare our resume' maybe.

Honestly the selection committee changes their criteria every year, so who knows? Sometimes they don't care about conference tournaments, sometimes they do. Sometimes they care about your last 10, sometimes they don't.

w/ a win tomorrow i think we'll have earned a 2-seed. but i'm not sure who we displace. they seem to be all so interchangeable.

That's the conundrum this year. Uber parity has come, and it's not pretty - no babes, just a lot of average chicks. Cinderella has left the ball, any team can be the surprise.

If we win tomorrow I say we get a 2. If we lose we get a 3. I don't know how they could put us at a 3 as a conference tournament champion, regular season champion, and with our RPI (top 8), Sagarin rating (#3), etc.
Miami has too many bad, bad losses to trust them as #1 or #2 seed. They could embarrass the selection committee by being the first #1 seed to lose in the first round.

Wow I can not believe all of these Gonzaga ones seeds. Have you check out UNM's record in the top ranked by RPI conference. So I see the one line as New Mexico, UF, UL and Miami/KU.

I'm willing to bet that if we beat Ole Miss tomorrow that we will get a 2 seed although it might be out west.
when you take into account our RPI, our BPI, our strength of schedule and the fact that we have nothing that is really considered a "bad loss."
then add the fact that we would be both regular season and conference tournament champs of a major conference.....that should be more than enough.

I would not bet, because each year it is a new committee and they are not consistent from year to year. Still a reasonable committee would not put Gonzaga on the one line over New Mexico. They also would not put Duke on the one line.

I personally do not think that getting a 2 seed or 3 seed will make a big difference. What I want to avoid is having to play a team with perceived home court. Like having to play Indiana in Indianapolis. We do very well in neutral gyms, but we seem to play our worst basketball in hostile environments. I will take a 3 seed in the west with Gonzaga a 1 seed and New Mexico the 2, over a 2 seed in the midwest with Indiana a 1 seed.

Georgetown will not get a 2 seed over us.

Georgetown won the regular season Big East title, arguably the best conference in basketball (maybe not this year with the Big 10). We have the same record in an inferior conference...
