Why is Miami ranked so highly?
Who have they actually beaten? They're going to get a higher seed then us even with horrible losses and very few wins over good teams. They are basically living off the ACC's cachet, but the ACC is no stronger than the SEC this year.
According to Pomeroy, the top 12 in each conference are:
SEC: 1, 17, 36, 44, 62, 68, 74, 90, 92, 96, 101, 193: Average 72.8
ACC: 5, 14, 20, 28, 38, 60, 91, 94, 112, 115, 132, 164: Average 72.8

What do you mean by highly? They are a few spots ahead of us in rankings and behind us in metrics. Before today our last game was a loss..rankings are largely based on how recent you lost when comparing teams of similar merit or record. We would be ahead of them in all likelihood had we taken care of UK. They also have some respectable road wins with UNC and NC St. We don't have any, really.
Also, the seeds haven't come out yet.

Miami had a great conference season, but were weak before that with some bad losses. I agree our resume is better, but not by a lot.

Well, if the bracket guys are to be believed, Miami is heading for a higher seed and it will be based entirely on how much stronger the ACC supposedly is.

Miami is two wins away from a #1 seed. They dominated Duke at home and nearly beat them on the road. They finished higher than Duke in conference play. Yet Duke was talked about as a #1 seed ahead of Miami. I'm only rooting for Miami because I'm the only one that has them in my conference tournaments pool. But I think they are looking good for a #1 seed.

Even in conference they lost to a bad Georgia Tech team in Miami.

LOL. Miami is going to be as big a farce as a #1 as Gonzaga imo. Both go out early

Personally, I think that this year, any team with a #1 seed is likely to lose by Sweet 16 time, and the same holds true for #2, #3 and #4.
There is not a single team that stands out (unless you want to include Gonzaga - I mean, give me a break).
How many of you remember when BYU won the Football National Championship. They were undefeated against the weakest schedule in the nation, much like Notre Dame this year, but really, their schedule was far worse than Notre Dame's this year. To win, they ended up beating a 6-5 (in the Big 10 even) Michigan team in the Fiesta Bowl, because of all the bowl tie-ins, all of the better teams played elsewhere.
I think Gonzaga is comparable to that team - pretty good, but far from sensational.
This year, I really don't think there is a dominant squad. Metric-wise, the Gators look good, but metrics are only one part of evaluating quality.

Gonzaga is deceptive and people can't take them for granted. They are the quietest #1 seed. I certaintly would rather play Indiana than Gonzaga.

Gonzago is good and shouldn't be overlooked which I know BD wouldn't anyway.
Miami got a lot of pub beating the doors off of Duke. That one win elevated them to start status. I really wish that Georgetown game could have been played because it looked like we were much better than them and would have beat them by a bunch. That one game could be the difference in our seeding IMO.

As much as I despise Miami, I'm having a hard time rooting against their coach. The job Larranaga has done with that team is impressive, yeah I know they are upperclassman loaded but they didn't do much the last few years. He also seems to be a pretty class guy.

We don't have any really great wins, Miami at least beat duke. Most of our big games to prove ourselves they have choked. Miami has lost to some horrible teams, but beat some good ones.

Stop focusing on Miami and focus on our Gators...who right now cant get by winning a conference tourney in what is a crappy conference this year.
Let's hope our seeding is decent and we get some good matchups/upsets...otherwise Sweet 16 may not even happen...

I love the media excuse for Miami losing 3 of their last 4 regular season games, two to unranked teams, one at home.
"Miami has been playing with the weight of the world on their shoulders." . . . . . . Now, that there are expectations.
BS!

For teams in the top 5 it seems that the pundits value good wins more than they punish bad losses.

I'm not sure what qualifies as a good win in your book. Do they need to beat an NBA team? The fact is they have quite a few really good wins. Yes, they have a few bad losses, but the committee tends to focus on who you've beaten and where you've beaten them, because almost every team has inexplicable losses. If you are of the opinion that the Gators have a better overall resume, that's certainly debatable. But to dismiss Miami as a team that doesn't belong in the conversation for a very high seed is just silly.
