As far as there was nothing Sully could do about it? Sure there is, he could recruit a mix of kids who may go pro and those who will be good college players but need some development.
I don't know many FSU fans who think this team is anything special, but they sure have played pretty well through 16 games. I expect them to finish between 2nd and 4th in the ACC and be in the mix to host. I don't think they will be a national seed, but you never know.
Again, so what you will about the lack of titles but a rebuilding year under Martin means a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Not what I was saying though.
We lost a lot and it shows this year. I agree the type of recruits Sully goes after hurts him though.
I said right after the draft that we would be lucky to go above .500 this year. As for the nolies in T-Town, if I had to listen to Preston Scott, one other guy on the radio, and a number of the nolie friends I know carry on about this game... well, it's just sort of silly to me.
And that's the point. We aren't anything that special this year, so them getting all worked up about beating UF is sort of like FSU football fans getting all worked up about beating a s everely dysfunctional, and banged up Gators in football in 2011.

Geo-
What a difference a year makes...the last couple of seasons FSU fans, including maybe you, were ready to run Martin out of town and now everyone is singing his praises.
And, regarding FSU's hot start, keep in mind the Noles schedule has been extremely week and you better wait before you book your tix to Omaha.
UF is struggling this year and it is because of a combination of losing a bunch of talent from last year, losing top FR signees unexpectedly this year and injuries (Whitson, Kish and Thompson). It happens and the bottom line is that FSU is better than UF this year. But, don't think for one second UF won't be back because O'Sullivan will build up the talent base very quickly.

There is a faction of the FSU fanbase that hates Mike Martin and wants him gone. Personally, I've always thought he was a very good coach. Nothing more, nothing less.
There was a time a few years ago when it was clear that Jamey Shouppe needed to go. How the 2010 FSU made the CWS and won a game is a borderline miracle. They had one starting pitcher, a setup guy, and a closer. That was it. Shouppe had built enough goodwill with Martin to buy a season or two more than I think he should have got, but I understood. Had changes not been made after the 2011 season I believe the fanbase would have turned on Martin.
If you read my post you will see that I stated I thought FSU would be in the regional hosting mix and not a national seed so I am not penciling anyone into Omaha at this point. What I do know is that FSU has created a system and the players buy into it. They grind out ABs and wear out pitchers. In most years I would say they have the 4th or 5th most talented teams in the ACC, but typically finish in the top 2 of the league. UF has clearly had more talent than FSU since 2010 yet I believe the series is 8-5 FSU with both teams winning three games in Omaha over the same period.
FSU has had injuries this year too. The leading returning hitter is out for the season played 5 games and is done for the year. He also was the only returning INF and one of two returning position players. The #2 pitcher was lost for the year in the preseason.
Again, there is no reason UF should be 8-10 after 18 games. We have seen what O'Sullivan can do with the most talent in the country and getting to Omaha three straight years is impressive. Let's see what he does with less than elite talent. In 2008 it got him bounced from a regional in two games. It is far from the given you make it out to be that UF will be back. I don't expect them to struggle to reach .500 every year, but I am not sure trips to Omaha will be the norm either.

I understand what you're saying, but you're wasting your time over here on anything positive about Martin...I've lived his show, it ain't worth the price of admission.

Personally, I don't recall anyone saying UF would be a .500 team this yr. I seem to recall they were picked 2nd in the sec east by most. No doubt they lost a lot of talent to mlb and the loss of Whitson and to a lesser extent Thompson was huge, but still no way to rationalize this start.
I seem to recall a banner recruiting class. Did all of those guys go pro or is everyone just underachieving. No reason for UF to ever be mediocre in baseball IMO. Still rooting for them to right the ship tho.
And I think Geo is enjoying this a bit too much, not to mention Understating the talent martin has had to work with.

we'll be playing some tough foes coming up - we can fold and get buried or buck-up and play some spirited ball. win some games; some series and we'll be looking good again. strength of schedule and rpi will really be good.

My point was that it's just going to take longer for this group to develop and get used to playing together. Yeah, maybe we should be better than 8 - 10, and then again, playing such a tough schedule with so much youth, maybe we shouldn't either.
