Nate Newton played for Tampa Bay.
Marv Levy coached the Chicago Blitz.
Larry Munson was the radio voice of Jacksonville.

No, Bruce Smith did not play in the U.S.F.L.
Others that played in USFL before joining NFL that weren't mentioned......
Bobby Hebert, Anthony Carter, Ricky Sanders, Kelvin Bryant, Of course the great Marcus Dupree, Gary Anderson, Craig James, Maurice Carthon.
Still have my mesh Bandits cap on my bookcase.
Another interesting note concerning Bassett. He passed on the day that the USFL's anti-trust lawsuit officially opened in court.
Recommend "Small Potatoes... who killed the USFL", it can be found on You Tube now (finally). Well done 30 for 30 movie directed by Mark Toller, the same guy that did "The Final Season". He spent a majority of his time covering the USFL (running their equivalent of NFL films) in Tampa. Lots of Bandit stuff. You won't be disappointed.

Loved Bandits games.
John Reaves, Gary Anderson, ET, Greg Boone, Zenon
We had season tickets - just as much fun as the NFL back then.

Re: 1990 coaching hire. The rumor was we were going to hire Mike Archer. Then Duke won the ACC in 89 and Archer became an afterthought. I'm no insider but that was my impression.

Plus, I've always figured Burt for a closet Gator. I mean the dude played a character named "Gator" in two movies (White Lightning and Gator). SOS probably lived out his childhood dream.

I was there -- drive through a nasty storm to get there from Orlando, I think.
Arizona had a very cool logo. There were a lot of cool logos, and a lot of ultra lame ones.

Loved spurrier, reaves and bandit ball. Had a shirt. Loved the games. Spurrier was setting the stage for his arrival in gainesville a few years later. Good times.

Yep. I design logos and corporate IDs...many of those logos would still look good today. The league was not trendy or flashy in the regard. The Houston logo with the negative space state outline inside the G was cool. The NJ logo was simple and classic. The short lived Pittsburgh Maulers logo was cool too if I recall.

For those of you too young to remember:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...ootball_League
Some great stuff there. The last "real" pro football alternative to the NFL. (XFL = BLEECH!!! And the WLAF doesnt count since it was bankrolled by the NFL.)

The Breakers moved all three years of the league. Boston in '83, New Orleans in '84 and Portland in '85. I think they were the worst in the league. A good college team could have beat them.

Someone mentioned Marv Levy as one of the head coaches. A lot of NFL talent there as well as on the field:
Pepper Rodgers
Lee Corso
George Allen
Chuck Fairbanks
John Hadl
Frank Kush
Jim Mora
Craig Morton
Jack Pardee
Mouse Davis (run and shoot)
Walt Michaels
John Ralston
Lindy Infante
Jim Bates
