The Arizona game
After the Arizona game, there were a few who were genuinely worried about this team. It wasn't because we lost, it was the way we lost it. After the game, a few people (including myself) said that loss would stick with us for the rest of the year. I can now honestly say that it has. This isn't a physical problem, it's a mental one. We missed countless layups right at the end of the game, and the same thing happened at Tennessee a couple of weeks ago.
No guts, no glory. Right now, this team has neither.
FWIW, I like the shot Boynton had at the end of the game. That wasn't a "choke" miss, that was a good shot that just didn't fall.

It has nothing to do with KB's miss and everything to do with what led to needing that shot to fall.

I think I'm more fuming at the fact we couldn't get Cauley Stein out of there when he was playing with 4 fouls with still 10 mins left in the game....I just hope we find our clutch gene wherever it went before tourney time starts...

Kentucky could have blew us out the gym to start the game , but we battled back. They were on the verge of blowing us out again to start the second half, but we once again battled back. Just made a couple of bonehead passes and shots didnt fall at the end. This was nothing like the Arizona game were we led for 99% of the game. Nothing like it.

Very true.
Also, I wanted to point out that we are playing on a neutral court from here on in. We'll be the better team 95% of the time, so I think we'll be fine in the tournament(s). This team is good, they just need to start playing great. I think they're capable of that.

You have to admit that he really stopped playing much defense, we went at him, he just let us miss shots instead of going for the block

Just posted this in another thread. I called it after the Zona game. A fatal mental block, unable to get past the Louisville game. My concern early on was how a team with 3 seniors and 2 juniors starting (all with lots of game and tourney experience) fell apart against a less experienced team. Now today....which team looked like it was playing a bunch of freshmen in the final 7:36? They managed to look like the team with zero big game experience. And it wasn't even close who looked less composed.

I completely disagree. We had a handle on the game with seven minutes left, and if we had even scored four points in that amount of time, we would have won. In the Arizona game, we also fell short in the final minutes despite having a grasp on the game.

I didn't like this either. Why does Young have no power game inside? The hook and reverse layup seem to be his only moves.

Did you all forget about the Butler game? It all started way back then.

Nope that wasn't a choke miss at all, just adds to him not being a clutch player.

Young basically missed 3 uncontested put in's and when Scottie wasn't driving in and missing, he was turning the ball over. Too bad we didn't see the freshman Frazier during that 8 minute run.

I hated Boynton's shot because there was no chance of drawing a foul and it didn't make the defense work hard enough.
We have the best, the absolute BEST, pick and pop big in college ball. Our opponents all know it. With 25 seconds left, he needs to set at least two screens and have at least two opportunities to touch the ball.

I agree that it wasn't the Boynton shot that was really what hurt us, it was the 8+ minutes leading up to that shot. It just shouldn't have come down to that shot.
My only comment about Boynton's shot would be he's already had some looks this year that didn't go down. I HATED the Mizzou shot because we only needed 2, and he took a DEEP 3 with a hand in his face (when he has been slumping big time from the 3'). This one was a pull-up 2, but it had a high degree of difficulty and also had a hand in his face. It wasn't an "awful" look - at least not as bad as the Mizzou shot, but it's not really what we want to have either...

Much rather have Murphy with the ball in his hands late in a game. Post him up, and let him make a move, or kick to someone who is open. Boynton can't penetrate well enough, and it is apparent that SW can't finish inside.

A couple bonehead passes?!?! A couple missed shots?!?!?! Our last 12 possessions were 6 turnovers, 4 missed layups, a missed 3, and a missed mid range jumper. I understand trying to be positive, but this is a huge stretch.

He drew three Ky players to him, Wilbekin was at the top of the arc with no one within 15 feet of him. Even if Wilbekin doesn't shoot, their defense would have been in panic react mode to a pass back out, Wilbekin could have drove for contact or make the pass off of their panic reaction. I just don't get why KB decides it has to be him shooting some contested shot to win the game. Pass the friggin ball if you don't have a clean look.
