It was a good article, and I'm glad you posted it. He was a gator great who doesn't always get the recognition he deserves.

Thanks for posting this article, that brought back some good memories for me. When I arrived at UF as a freshman, Moten and Maxwell were Florida basketball. My friends and I used to walk up to the O'Dome just before game time, purchase student tickets, and go sit pretty much wherever we wanted in the student bleacher section (must be in the front row!). What a difference 27 years makes!
But it also brought back some sad memories. I recall seeing Schintzius driving around town crammed into his Merkur XR4Ti until he traded that in for a new BMW 750i. I will never forgive Don Devoe for what he did to ruin Dwayne's senior year (yes I know Dwayne played no small part in that). Hopefully Dwayne has finally found some peace after what has to be described as a pretty turbulant and trying time on this rock.

Moten is one of my favorite all times. BTW, he is the guy Kasey Hill reminds me of the most, though I believe Moten came in as a Frosh with a better shooting stroke than Hill has shown so far.
It was very interesting to hear that he knew Boynton's father.

Screw Brockway after his tweet last night:
@gatorhoops: Michael Snaer the anti-Kenny Boynton. Always comes up with game winners in the clutch.

Just like Charlie Pell changed the direction of Florida football in the 1980's, so did Moten & Maxwell in BB.
Unfortunately, the legacies of both Pell and Maxwell were permanently damaged by the end of it.
Nearly forgot that Maxwell scored the most (unofficial) points in Florida history.

Right with you Gotham. At times like this I think you have to mention perhaps the most underappreciated Gator cager of all time:
1. Ronnie Montgomery. Strange that our all-time assist leader and central player on our first two tournament teams could be overlooked, but it's true. RonnieMont came in with Vernon and was instrumental to the success of those Moten teams (and taking us to the tourney in '88 after Drew graduated). Ronnie was the true point guard on those team...Drew was better suited to the 2. Ronnie was always rock solid getting us into our sets but could knock down the J from hte top of the key to keep defenses honest. He was quiet, and I think helped keep the excitable Mad Max on an even keel on the floor. At the time, us proto-Rowdy Reptiles insisted on calling them the M&M&M Boys. We even talked about kidnapping that insipid M&M guy and adding an extra M to his outfit.

Back on the Moten-Maxwell days, I'll never forget happening to be on a ski trip at the same time the Gators were playing first round of NCAAs in Salt Lake City. Got to be there as Maxwell raced downcourt after St. John's tied us even though I think Sloan wanted to call a timeout, stuck a dagger jumper in their hearts with 2 seconds left.

Really liked Moten and glad he's still in BB. Maxwell is still the best athlete/BBplayer I've seen on a Gator team and after this many years of BD's great teams that says a lot.

Maxwell and Moten in the backcourt were relentless. It felt like their toughness controlled almost any game we were in.
Great to see Moten is doing well and still keeping an eye on the program.

Sat courtside for many games back then. Vernon Maxwell was incredible. Fun times.

4-7 is a very nice percentage. It is not ALWAYS.
Reporters who are ignorant and proud of it, really irritate me. It is your job, find the facts.

Vernon Maxwell
I'm really happy the Moten is doing well and enjoys his work.
Does anyone know the present status of Maxwell?
