That was a great, great season and i was at the airport that night, after having attended every home game that season and that was the only season I did (I was at UF 85 - 91). I didn't make it onto the roof, but my roommates did and were on the cover of the Alligator the next day. The Tennis Ball game is one of the great stories in Gator Sports history...

I went to the airport that night. What a Cinderella season given the start and overall history of the program. Clifford Lett will always be one of my favorite Gators for his performance from January forward. He really was the spark plug in a season that started with so much promise and was a complete disaster after a month. I still have a copy of the Alligator from that Monday, will try to scan and post

Clifford Lett's dad worked at the same chemical plant as I did and I agree with the posters that met him and thought he was a fine fellow, Charlie was that for sure. Clifford wound up playing for a pro basketball team that was in Pensacola for a year or two and his signing helped a great deal with ticket sales.

Clifford was/is a great guy. Came back to school and even played some pick-up ball with us mere mortals.

Once during an intramural game I hit a 3 and heard a shout out of "Go Gators" from the sideline. It was Clifford.

So next year is the 25th anniversary. Damn well need to have a big celebration. Not just some lame halftime walkout at at a game against a SWAC loser!

Wow - how time flies and how small the world really is. I was at the airport and I also was at Skeeters afterwards. LOL

Great times. Can't believe it's been 25 years. Life is short.

Great thread guys and thanks for the memories. I remember failing an engineering mechanics test (only time) because I wanted to get home and listen to the LSU game on the radio. Got a case on the way home and my roommate and I ran out to the airport afterwards. Almost got arrested when a section of the fence fell. Good times!

Oh, and not to be negative, but the Dwayne Davis Dunks reference made me think of the triple-T, Tim Turner Turnovers!

A great front line. Liv Chatman everyone in the country wanted him. Davis was highly recruited and Dewayne played admirally. These guys took out the twin towers at LSU to help win the SEC. Shaq, the real big baby.

Clifford Lett and Renaldo Garcia did their part. Norm Sloan actually lit the fire of Gator Basketball of what we know now. His recruiting prowess he always got good players whether they were highly recruited or not. Kenny McClary from Jacksonville was a PF who blossomed at Florida and played with the M&M guards. Tough player who was another favorite of mine. I believe Norm won at Lexington 3 times. Kentucky in those days were getting whoever they wanted. Norm wouldn't have it. We got to the sweet sixteen in the days it was hard just to get in the tournament. Florida just needed to keep the best players in the state of florida to win big. The Florida program wasn't used to winning big and Norm got scrutiny from everywhere. I feel other programs were always trying to knock us down because they weren't used to losing to Florida. If Norm would have gone on a few more years he might have got the first Nat'l title. If you have ever met Norm you know he was personable in real life, fiery on the court. To have recruited David Thompson and Vernon Maxwell, two of the all time best basketball players to ever come out of the south, enough said. These two players, David Thompson, the top recruit in the nation when he was a Senior, Vernon, the top player in the south, the number 1 two guard in the nation.

Billy getting Kasey Hill, who will take over right from the start at pg and Chris Walker, who I feel will need to learn our offensive plays, but again, he will be a nightmare for whoever is chasing him. If Finney/Smith can hang with these two, look out, the Fourth of July fireworks are coming our way. That's why this year's championship is for the record books. Next year we are going to tear out the heart and souls of a lot of good teams. Go Gatas

My department.

If it was Mechanics of Materials that semester I wasn't an instructor. If it was Statics I might have been. I did teach it a few times in the 1980's.

I remember watching the game on TV, but I don't recall if it was live or on tape delay. My strongest memory is seeing the joy in Dwayne S after the game, may he rest in peace.

It was wonderful to see Dwayne S at a few Gator games a few years ago. I know that he left with a bad taste in his mouth (Don DeVoe/Captain Ahab), but somebody must have reached out to get him back. My guess is Billy D.
