A great front line. Liv Chatman everyone in the country wanted him. Davis was highly recruited and Dewayne played admirally. These guys took out the twin towers at LSU to help win the SEC. Shaq, the real big baby.
Clifford Lett and Renaldo Garcia did their part. Norm Sloan actually lit the fire of Gator Basketball of what we know now. His recruiting prowess he always got good players whether they were highly recruited or not. Kenny McClary from Jacksonville was a PF who blossomed at Florida and played with the M&M guards. Tough player who was another favorite of mine. I believe Norm won at Lexington 3 times. Kentucky in those days were getting whoever they wanted. Norm wouldn't have it. We got to the sweet sixteen in the days it was hard just to get in the tournament. Florida just needed to keep the best players in the state of florida to win big. The Florida program wasn't used to winning big and Norm got scrutiny from everywhere. I feel other programs were always trying to knock us down because they weren't used to losing to Florida. If Norm would have gone on a few more years he might have got the first Nat'l title. If you have ever met Norm you know he was personable in real life, fiery on the court. To have recruited David Thompson and Vernon Maxwell, two of the all time best basketball players to ever come out of the south, enough said. These two players, David Thompson, the top recruit in the nation when he was a Senior, Vernon, the top player in the south, the number 1 two guard in the nation.
Billy getting Kasey Hill, who will take over right from the start at pg and Chris Walker, who I feel will need to learn our offensive plays, but again, he will be a nightmare for whoever is chasing him. If Finney/Smith can hang with these two, look out, the Fourth of July fireworks are coming our way. That's why this year's championship is for the record books. Next year we are going to tear out the heart and souls of a lot of good teams. Go Gatas
