Patric Young helped the Gators finish their last home game of the season on a proper note with a 66-40 thrashing of the Vanderbilt Commodores. Young was 6-7 from the field and 2-2 from the stripe to score 14 points to go with 4 rebounds, an assist, a steal, 3 blocks and no turnovers for 78 value credits. Senior Kenny Boynton led the Gators in scoring with 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and no turnovers for 52 value credits. Senior Erik Murphy picked up his game in the 2nd half, scoring 10 points with 6 boards and an assist for 47 value credits. Michael Frazier II had a fine game off the bench scoring 6 points and 6 rebounds to also earn 47 value credits for the Gators.
Between the Commodores deliberate style of play, the Gators tenacious defense and sluggish offense, the first half ended at 24-14. The offensive tempo picked up in the second half as the Gators extended their lead to 28 before bringing in the bench. It was a solid win for the Gators and enabled them and the seniors in particular to celebrate their last game in the O'Connell Center as SEC Conference Champions.
The Gators have an opportunity to finish their regular SEC season slate with a sweep of Kentucky if they win over the Wildcats at Lexington this Saturday.
