Whats more equivalent to Football SECCG?
SEC regular season crown or SEC tourney crown?

Regular season. In football you can't get to the title game without it. In basketball, its a better measure of who the best team is than the tournament.

What REM said. The tourney is kind of a farce when telling how good a team really is IMO. Too often you have some nobody get hot and win it

It's one of the good things about the conference expansion and extra game for the bottom four.
I hope we never see anything like 2011 ever again.

Who cares. It's not football.
In football, you can't play a round robin schedule, so you need some kind of playoff to determine the champion.
In basketball, there are plenty of games to allow every team to play every other team at least once. That's a better test.

Neither...the fact that you can have 3-4 teams split the regular season title and then have yet another team claim the tournament title just waters down both IMO. I would say that a Final Four appearance would be on par with an SEC Football Championship. In football it's all about National & SEC Titles. In basketball it's all about NCAA Titles & Final Four Appearances.

2011? Georgia won the SEC basketball tournament in 2008, when the tornado hit the Georgia Dome.

If you are asking which is a better measure of the best team in the league it is hands down the regular season champ. Our system isn't perfect, in an ideal world you would play every team in the conference twice (one home one away) and whoever had the best record at the end would be the winner but this is close.
The SEC tournament rewards the hottest team not necessarily the best over the course of a season.

neither, the sec championship in football is more equivalent to winning the national title in basketball since the SEC has won the last 7 or 8 titles

Yeah, I agree with Reggie.
One big problem I have with the SEC tournament is simply that it is now, between 3 or 4 or 5 games in 3 or 4 or 5 days.
Such a situation clearly benefits deeper teams over what may be better teams.
To a certain extent, the NCAA tournament has similar characteristics in that a 1.5 day rest again benefits the deeper team over what may be the better teams.
Or, are deeper teams necessarily better than "better" teams - is it possible to determine that.
You may perhaps recall that the 2005-06 Gator SEC tournament and national tournament team finished 2nd in the SEC East that year to Tennessee. Man, am I glad they stopped seeding East and West separately last year. You may recall that the top 4 teams were all from the East last year.
Personally, I think everything is important: The regular season, the conference tournament and the NCAA/NIT tournament.
