Default NCAA First Round - Where Do Gators Go?

The Committee has a stated policy of trying to keep the top 4 seeds as close to home as possible in their first weekend of games. The problem for Florida is that there aren't any subregional games close to Gainesville. Here are the nearest sites.

Lexington, KY - 711 Miles
Dayton, OH - 844 Miles
Philadelphia, PA - 914 Miles
Arlington, TX - 1002 Miles
Auburn Hills, MI -1084 Miles
Kansas City, MO - 1133 Miles
Salt Lake City, UT - 2203 Miles
San Jose, CA - 2730 Miles

Two top 4 seeds will be assigned to each subregion. Higher seeded teams generally have a priority in going to their closest subregion.

Up to now, people have assumed that Florida would go to Lexington as the nearest subregion, but with Louisville and Miami playing so well, it may well be that Florida gets bumped to another subregion.

When figuring out where Florida might end up, it's worth considering where other top teams are located and whether they might lockup a site if they are ranked higher than Florida at season's end. Here is a list of Jerry Palm's top 4 seeds and where he has them heading if the season ended today.

Duke - Philadelphia
Indiana - Dayton
Gonzaga - Salt Lake
Georgetown - Philadelphia
Kansas - Kansas City
New Mexico - Arlington
Miami - Lexington
Louisville - Lexington
Michigan - Dayton
Florida - Auburn Hills
Arizona - Salt Lake City
Michigan State - Auburn Hills
St. Louis - Austin
Syracuse - San Jose
Kansas State - San Jose
Marquette - Kansas City

Since the season won't end today, we'll be higher than Looeyville and scUM/Duke ACC tourny non-winner and go to Lexington. It will be most beneficial, not due to proximity, but have played there next Saturday.

I think we go to lexington. I think the committee will find a potential uf um matchup compelling.

I don't think putting us both in Lexington would help that cause as we would be in different pods. We would likely have to meet up the following weekend.

Playing in Rupp won't be a bad thing, since our guys will have played there the previous week.

Interesting situation, anyway one looks at it.

Why on Earth are there no Southern Pods this year? Lexington is almost in Ohio, after all from a proximity perspective - that is Midwest, not South.

This appears to be a bias.

Definitely a bias (intentional or not) in the first round sites this year. Lexington, Dayton, and Detroit are too close to all have regionals at the same time. Lexington is the only southern site, and that's almost in Ohio.

If UF wins the SECT, that should move them to a #2 seed and high enough to go to Lexington.

Yes, there is a total bias in first round sites this year, and it's something they shouldn't do.

That said, they make up for it the next couple of years, with a Florida site in each of 2014 and 2015 and a bunch of southeast sites overall in 2014.

I hear an echo.

scUM and Georgetown took a step to get behind us last night.

Michael Frazier looked like his old form last night. Hopefylly, we can peak next week in Nashville and carry it thru April.

it is really important that we win out. with gtown and miami already losing, there is also a very good chance of kstate, mich st, and michigan also losing this week. we can make up some ground.
