florida made the final four as a 3 seed (1994, 2006), a 5 seed (2000), and 1 seed (2007)
made the elite 8 as a 2 seed (2011) and 7 seed (2012)
personnally, i don't think seeds matter all that much compared to matchups.

And you are MUCH more likely to have 'better matchups' when you are a better seed.
And for the other posters: of course it is most important to be playing your best come tournament time. Isn't that obvious?
And another thing about upsets in the tournament, guess what? You cannot control them. We got lucky last year with Mizzou losing. But we had absolutely nothing to do with them losing. So why would you want to rely on something that you have no control over?
What you can control is what seed you should get. Therefore you can control how easy/hard your path should be. Whether it deviates on easy/hard it should be is not up to your team at all.
So shouldn't the goal be to maximize your chance at success through the things you do have control over?

The only way Florida is going to be a #1 seed is for them to go 5-0 the rest of the way which would include an SEC tournament championship.

that's not what i mean.
you are going to play good teams. it's the tournament.
by matchups, i mean that there are teams where the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent are much more favorable to getting a win.
for instance, we seem to struggle with tennessee every year. and for the most part, they haven't been close to being ranked.

If we beat Vandy and UK, then win the SEC Tournament, we should be a #1 seed.

Yes..especially since two losses came short-handed. If Duke can cry about not having Kelly as an excuse against Wake the same holds true for UF.

That chart would be a pretty good argument for going back to a field of 32.

64 was plenty, and here's the logic. Teams seeded 13-16, with a few, rare exceptions, are from small, 1-bid conferences. While their chances of winning it all are slim and none, these teams are the belles of the ball, and everyone (minus fans of the losing team) loves it when Bucknell beats Kansas, Lehigh beats Duke, or yes, Santa Clara beats Arizona!
In addition, there have been two 11-seeds make it to the Final Four (LSU and VCU). And while neither team won it all, anything can happen once you make it to a Final Four.
So while yes, history says the tournament is going to be won by one of the top 12 teams, the first weekend of the tournament is more about Cinderella and which top teams can survive and advance. 64 was perfect, and I for one, would like us to back to 64. The First Four are meaningless and unnecessary in my opinion.

Isn't that exactly what I said?
2-0 equals wins over Vandy & Kentucky + 3 wins in the tournament which would be the SEC tournament championship = 5-0 the rest of the way which equals a #1 seed

This is essentially the same argument about recruiting stars in football. Both matter.

I would far rather be a #1 seed in any tournament than a number 2 seed, because the 2 seed faces the 3 seed. The same, is, of course, true for the 3 seed. The main reason the 4 seeds win so rarely is because they are in the same bracket as the 1 seed.
Fortunately, the Gators will be the #1 seed in the SEC tournament, which means a "relatively" easier path to the title.
I doubt seriously that this year's Gator team, given the 5 losses, 3 to not exactly great teams, will get a #1 seed, but, you never know for sure what is going to happen.
