Surely WM doesn't think it's a good thing to be almost the worst team in the nation in terms of penalties per game for two seasons in a row.

I agree that penalties and injuries in the Sugar Bowl hurt us but they weren't the biggest reason we lost big-time (I won't argue with you over the meaning of the word "dominated"). That reason IMHO was our inability to pressure Bridgewater and our inability to cover his receivers when the game was still on the line.
I wasn't talking about penalties I didnt even mention them. The injury Jelani was a huge impact on not being able to cover Ball was getting killed.

I would say we were going after Teddy too much in the first half. In the 2nd half we went back to how we played against A & M rush 4 and dont let Teddy out of the pocket. But its been awhile since I watched the game.

I am one of those people that was over the game as soon as it ended dont think it matter at all. I also dont care what the media says about this team in Feb.

If we cannot develop a passing offense and keep up defensive play, like we have in the past, then we will simply not be part of the conversation. I was, however, surprised to see we weren't even mentioned in the article. I hope that is some motivation to the players who read it... especially the incredibaly talented Jeff Driskell (who is an enigma to me as a fan)
This, other than the Tennessee game and the FSU game our offense was really, really hard to watch- even against cupcakes like ULL, we had spurts at times and the defense was a blast but offensively this was one of the worst Gator teams in a a quarter century. Someone needed to reintroduce the play spinner- it was basically always Gilly left, Gilly right, pass or Gilly left, Gilly right- third and short Gilly up the middle against a 10 man box, Pease didn't exactly blow anyone away as an OC but given the situation he was thrust into- limited talent and an overbearing HC who some reports suggest wouldn't get out of the way and let Pease do his job its not hugely surprising that we struggled, if next season we don't have a Top 50 offense, Pease is gone.

I was pretty sure we had almost no chance by the end of the first quarter when it was obvious that Bridgewater was an excellent QB who could almost always quickly find an open receiver.

I can understand how after that game some in the media aren't talking a lot about us. Our performance in that game made it look like some of our close wins were flukes (which I don't agree with but I can understand the perception).
Uh yes, dominated is the first word that comes to mind for what happened to us in that game.

No argument but just to explain - your "easy to fix" message was in response to a post that said penalties (among other things) were the reason we lost the game. That's why I mentioned penalties in response to your message. If I misunderstood what you were saying was easy to fix, my apologies.

It looks like we were dominated in that game, start to finish. That's what was disappointing. We were outplayed and had no answer for Bridgewater, plus we were getting pushed around. That means to me either we had lucky season, or just didn't want to play in the Sugar Bowl. I think some guys didn't show, but some like Elam, left it all on the field. This won't happen when WM has all his guys on the field.

The bold did not happen. Who did not show on the field? The 2nd half looked different than the first.

They kind of shut there offense down after going up 3 TDs- if Bridgewater kept passing the ball they could've named the score.

They were passing the ball the whole game? I never seen them really stop. Florida's defense just simply played better in the 2nd....

Yeah, but he wouldn't be able to name the hospital he would be in. That dude took a beating everytime he went back and still put the ball exactly where it needed to be. Best QB we played all last year.

Not so sure...

Louisville passing by quarters:

Quarter---------Att--------Comp----------Yards

1st.......................7..................4.... ..............66
2d.......................11..................8.... ............114
3d........................9..................5.... ...............56
4th.......................5..................3.... ...............30

Total...................32.................20..... ...........266

Rushing plays by quarters:

Quarter------------Att-----------Yards

1st...........................7................... ..12
2d............................8................... ..-2
3d..........................10.................... ...5
4th.........................11.................... .55

Total.....................36.....................7 0

Of course, a few of his runs were sacks, as in college, sacks are counted against a QB's run totals. Also, Louisville controlled the clock, having the ball over 11 minutes longer than we had it.

Their rushing numbers aren't that great even though they go up by quarter

Of course, a few of his runs were sacks, as in college, sacks are counted against a QB's run totals. Also, Louisville controlled the clock, having the ball over 11 minutes longer than we had it.
like I said they continued to throw the football BTW that was a terrible way to try and prove your point go look at the drive summaries.

But they didn't throw with the same frequency as they did in the first half, and they ran considerably more in the second half. Just because they threw SOME does it not mean that they were trying to control the ball and eat the clock.

1. Entering the 4th quarter, Louisville was ahead by three TDs.

2. Here is the total play-by-play for the 4th quarter:

(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for loss of 2 yards to the LOU20 (Orr,L.)
(2nd and 12) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass complete to ROGERS, Eli for 13 yards to the LOU33, 1ST DOWN LOU, out-of-bounds (Bostic,J.).
(1st and 10) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass incomplete to ROGERS, Eli.
(2nd and 10) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass complete to WRIGHT, Jeremy for 5 yards to the LOU38 (Roberson,M.).
(3rd and 5) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass complete to SMITH, Andrell for 12 yards to the 50 yardline, 1ST DOWN LOU (Elam,M).

(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 8 yards to the UF42 (Fowler,D.).
(2nd and 2) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 25 yards to the UF17, fumble forced by Roberson,M., fumble by WRIGHT, Jeremy recovered by LOU COPELAND, D. at UF17, 1ST DOWN LOU.
(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 5 yards to the UF12 (Bostic,J.).
(2nd and 5) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for loss of 1 yard to the UF13 (Easley,D.).
(3rd and 6) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass incomplete to COPELAND, D..
(4th and 6) WALLACE, John field goal attempt from 30 GOOD, clock 07:54.

(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 1 yard to the UF40 (Bullard,J.).
(2nd and 9) BRIDGEWATER, T. sacked for loss of 2 yards to the UF42 (Elam,M).
(3rd and 11) [SHOT], BRIDGEWATER, T. pass incomplete to DOMINGUEZ, Kai.
(4th and 11) JOHNSON, Ryan punt 39 yards to the UF3, downed.

(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 12 yards to the UF33, 1ST DOWN LOU (Elam,M;Watkins,Ja.).
(1st and 10) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 9 yards to the UF24 (Elam,M), PENALTY UF offside defense declined.
(2nd and 1) WRIGHT, Jeremy rush for 1 yard to the UF23, 1ST DOWN LOU (Easley,D.).
(1st and 10) TEAM rush for loss of 1 yard to the UF24.
(2nd and 11) End of game, clock 00:00.

Lessee. On the first set of downs, Bridgewater threw on 2d and 12, an obvious passing down. The next three passes were screen passes.

After that, Bridgewater threw twice, both in passing downs. The rest were runs. Florida had one offensive scoring drive in the 4th quarter.

3. Louisville had the ball for nearly 19 of the 30 minutes in the second half, yet gained only 158 yards in the half. They were in control.

4. Louisville had five drives in excess of 50 yards. Florida had three, with the last one after the game was well in hand.

Face it. We finished the season poorly, but still finished in the Top Ten which was far better than most of us expected to be at the beginning of the year. It seemed like we had two gator teams, the one that beat LSU, and stomped FSU and USCe, and the one that lost to Georgia, was controlled by Louisville, and were lucky to get past Mizzou and especially that Cajun powerhouse, Louisiana-Lafayette.

Here's to hoping that Muschamp will eliminate that Jekyll-Hyde tendency and have a more consistent Florida team in 2013.

Surely WM doesn't think it's a good thing to be almost the worst team in the nation in terms of penalties per game for two seasons in a row.
In 2008 Florida was #105 out if 119 teams for committing penalties.
In 2006 the Gators were #118 out of 119. Practically the worst team in the nation in committing penalties.

Won the NC both years.
