Gator Lacrosse coming to South Florida (SunLife Stadium) March 2nd
Gator Lacrosse coming to South Florida!
Gators playing Syracuse in the Orange Bowl Lacrosse Challenge Saturday, March 2nd, 5pm
[unfortunately, that's the weekend gators play canes in baseball in g'ville]
if you're not heading up to g'ville for the baseball games, you might want to check out the lacrosse action. ticket gets you in the door for 2 matches (2nd match is a men's lacrosse match between Army and Michigan).

Am I the only one who gets more excited when we pass the stick check than when we score a goal?

As Larry said, idiot rule. Kitty seemed excited.
10-6 at half. Amazing angle on that last goal by Chesterman.

Really solid first half. But the second half in this one is going to be what makes a statement one way or the other.

14-10 with 3 minutes left. Almost the same situation as last year. Here's hoping we finish better.

Meager just stone cold stopped a one on one shot, that was huge. Florida with possession, 2:24 to play. Pretty sure they practiced killing the clock late in matches.

Props to my #flax friends in this thread. Go freaking Gator Lacrosse and bloody hell for beating Syracuse.
I have longed....LONGED...for this game. The severity of the final-four-second-half-who-shall-not-be-named combined with the blowhard that is Gary Gait has made this game a circle-the-date event. I wish gatorvision had a webcast.
Based on the results so far, it looks to be a bloodbath at the top of the women's lax world this year. 6 or so really good teams that play each other enough during the regular season to really sort out who's the real deal. Another six (e.g. Loyola) who can get hot on a day and throw a wrench in things.
For those starting the inevitable process of falling in love with this team and sport, I recommend the LaxPower forums. You get a good feel for how the long-timers feel about this Gator team. (Summary: many really like how we play.)

Coach O'leary's quote takes the PC tone (“This year is a whole new year and we have some new players so this win was all about 2013 and not about what happened in the Final Four last year.”), but you know just beneath the surface she was ready to bust out with "Check that, Gary Gait!"

lacrosse makes for a good tv sport - especially the way the gators play: always aggressive. syracuse did alot of holding the ball behind the goal, so they were more of a delay half-field offense (although they had some super speedy gals that could run!).
men's game was interesting - and fast too. army played michigan after the gator game. (only stayed for the first qrt as it got too cold and i wanted to watch some of the gator/cane baseball game). different crease and goal position and, apparently, different rules for attackers - or was the change due to the time limits?
lacrosse seems like a growing sport in florida.
super curious about this sport.

Mens and womens game are night and day. Start with 10 on a side v 11. Mens sticks have deeper pockets allowing for easier carrying, catching and shooting. As you might imagine, the mens game is much more physical. Men allow checking and rougher play, women limit that severely. Mens game is usually faster and now with the shot clock, stalling is limited.
Those are just a few of the big differences. The goal placement, crease, markings and faceoffs are all different.
There will be plenty of mens games on ESPN this year. Not so many womens games. IMHO, the mens game is a better watch on TV because of the action. It is more like football, which we are all conditioned to. If you are cheering on your team, it doesn't matter mens or womens.
