Our Servicemen & Women
This had nothing to do with sports but I am watching while browsing Gatorcountry so I'm putting down my thoughts, the show I am watching for the first time is "Inside Combat Rescue" on Nation Geographic Channel. These guys fly out and bring in wounded soldiers and get them to treatment as soon as possible , these guys are unsung heros to the fullest degree. This really brings to light how silly it is for athletes to talk about going to war , being a soldier, and the other comments we hear about playing a game.

Thanks for remembering. As I prepare to take off my uniform for the last time in 28 years of service, I hope there are more like you guys out there. People forget we are still at war. WE ARE! There are still ceremonies at the Pentagon where wounded warriors come through and are recognized. They wouldn't be there if it weren't for the dedicated rescue and medical personnel that get them home.
If you are so inclined, say a prayer for all those still in harms way. My oldest son is a Engineer Platoon Leader in Afghanistan doing route clearance and road repair. I am grateful as a Soldier that we have the trained, dedicated personnel that won't quit until relieved, but as a parent I still worry. I just have to keep praying that as we wind down we won't pull necessary support to our troops in the name of "getting out" or saving a buck.
But, I digress. Cool show, great Americans. Glad to be on the same side.

I remember being "dusted off" by Medvacs in Nam many years ago. They are true superheroes and each deserves a Medal of Honor.

Here here - go Gators, great post. As a retired Army guy I can tell you that while many seem to forget we are at war there are still many who appreciate everyones' service. I had the honor this weekend at the Gasparilla Distance Classic in Tampa to walk the 5k with some of our wounded warriors, specifically Army SGT Joel Tavera - truly humbling and an absolute honor to have that opportunity and received far more joy from that than from the races I was able to compete in. The crowd was extremely appreciative and supportive - some props to Tampa.

Nice post. I saw the same segment. These professionals have a very important and dangerous job. I am praying for their safety and the soldiers they assist. Even though my oldest son has been out of the Army for seven years now and my third son is currently in the Air Force, at times I find myself not giving sufficient thought and prayer for all servicemen in general and those in harm's way in particular. Your post serves as a timely reminder of the debt we owe to those who serve and have served on our behalf.

I just wish all of support our troops emotions carried over to taking care of them and their families when they return home. Suicides and divorces are alarmingly high and these warriors wait far too long to get the care they need. Congress has also shot down increases in disability benefits and raises in pay. The public needs to take a real interest in these issues to follow through on support for the troops.

One of the charities I contribute to is the Disabled Veterans and they send different kind of kits to the servicemen in hospitals and rehab facilities, there is usually a card you can sign and for a while I wondered if they really got these kits. Then I stated receiving a "thank you" card ever now and then and the message is usually short but almost always brings tears to my eyes. I am keeping each and ever card I receive and a couple has asked to be pen pals.
