Scottie Wilbekin had an excellent 39 minutes of play to lead Florida but it wasn't enough as the short-handed Gators fell 58-64 to the Tennessee Volunteers on the road. Willbekin had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover to earn 81 value credits. Mike Rosario led the Gators in scoring 16 points along with 4 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers to earn a solid 58 value credits. Patric Young played big in the middle with 15 points, 5 rebounds and a block for 53 value credits.
The Gators fell short at the end of each half as their starting five played most of the game in a late night contest at Knoxville. Their depth got a little worse as Casey Prather rung his bell fighting for a rebound in the 2nd half. Overall, the Volunteers outrebounded the Gators by 11 led by big man Jarnell Stokes (6-7, 270) who pulled down 14 boards. The star player for Tennessee was SG Jordan McRae who had 27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and blocked shots. Still, the Gators hung tough late into the contest before their cold shooting from the arc (1-13 to close the game) proved to be too much to overcome the Vols who played in front of 19,567 fans in Thompson-Boling Arena. Unfortunately for the Gators, they do not have the opportunity to host Tennessee in a return match due to the unbalanced SEC expanded schedule.
The Gators come home on Saturday to play Alabama. It remains to be seen whether Yeguette, Frazier II and now Prather will play. If Casey had a concussion, it could be his third of the season which may mean he would be out for an extended period of time.
