My biggest gripe. . .
I think anyone who has watched Florida basketball recognizes that PY is limited offensively... both in getting the ball, and then doing something with it. Still, his size and strength demands touches.
But beyond that, I find our use of Murphy very frustrating. He is such a skilled, diverse player that we have almost relegated to the three point line. A few times tonight we sqw him around the basket, but for reasons unkown to me---- did not go back to it.

Someone made a good point Murph is more effective in the post when Prather is in the game as it creates more space
PY camps out down low and seems to clog up the space needed for Murph to operate
But your right PY makes an 8 footer look so hard

I disagree about PY being limited offensively. Well I guess it depends on what you mean. He has a very limited array of moves but he is very good at the moves he does have. The only time I don't feel good about PY getting the ball near the basket is when he is a bit too far out and he doesn't work hard enough to back his man down, instead settling for a long hook shot that often comes up short. He does shoot 61% so he certainly gets the ball in the hoop more often than not when he shoots.

Yes... by limited I mean that he has a very narrow range of post moves, and as you alluded too--- virtually no range, or step back game.
That, combined with his struggles to establish position, makes him a difficult player to really rely upon offensively.
I am not suggesting he be ignored, but that he be complemented by better use of Eric Murphy.

Yes, every few games Murphy shows a very nice little hook shot, the he heads back to three pt land. I often wonder if Young's weak rebounding numbers have more to do with him spending so much time setting screens and defending away from the basket. .

I do like seeing Murphy in the post some of the time, particularly when he is having an off shooting night, like tonight. As far as Young goes, he has a nice and developing offensive game. He hit a midrange shot tonight and he has hit several of them this year. He has also added baseline move to his across the lane hook shot move.

I sometimes question the ability of our guards to recognize the open man close to the basket. I've seen many cuts go totally unnoticed in the past when it could have led to a good look in down low.

Murphy can be good at times in the post when he gets good position. Then there are other times when Skyler McBee is pushing him out of his spot when they switch and he tries to go down low.

I'll be honest AKA: I think Murph would have dominated a game like this if we weren't running 6-deep the entire time. I think he was gassed (hence, the poor 3PT shooting).

Long before Murphy was a consistent 3 point threat, the way he did his scoring for us was by posting up with hook shots or banked off the glass from short and medium distances. He's still very capable of doing that if we wanted to add another dimension to our offense.

EM has been banged up too. Hard on him taking the inside when he's playing more minutes. Will go in more when WY comes back for good minutes.

Good info, thanks. Things will look a lot different if we can get back to full strength.

I generally agree with your post, but I didn't feel good about Young getting the ball in the post in the last 10 minutes of this game, because he looked gassed and had lost a lot of his leaping ability.

The guy has been playing with bruised ribs all season...how about taking that into consideration. I for one will be very surprised if Murphy isn't playing NBA ball next year! He has great skills. Some of you only want to see the glass half empty!!!!!

I CAN'T WAIT to be back at full strength AND playing at home AND against a Bama team that needs a solid beatdown...
I think we need more interior passing. WY seems to be our best high to low-post passer. We're going to have a different dynamic with him in the game, it's been a tough go down so many...but we'll be back in biz soon enough
patience, grasshoppers...

Young can't score?? Check out last night's boxscore .. 2nd leading scorer with 15 pts.
My gripe is we don't apparently have anyone who can stop a player like McRae.

ugh.
work on your reading comprehension. i was actually complimenting murphy and stating that i would like to see him have a chance to use all of his skills.

yeah... how many of those points came in the halfcourt offense on post plays? not a lot.
also, i never said he "can't score".
the point of my post is that we need more consistent inside scoring, which i would be interested to hear you dispute. and i think part of the answer is greater use of murphy.

I agree, I understand he is banged up. Murphy should be our number one option IMO
