Default What's the difference between us (3 seed) and Gonzaga (1 seed) accordin to Jerry Palm

I thought people might find this interesting. It seems like a case can be made for Gonzaga to be a higher seed than us but to be 2 lines higher doesn't make sense. CBS continually has us below the national average in Bracketology and the Top 25 (And 1) Poll.

Yellow circle indicates that the team circled has a better number, and blue circles indicate virtual ties.

Here is a Michigan comparison. Although he has UM as a 2 seed but still.

We don't pass Jerry's smell test , so he will always have UF at least one line below the consensus, this year. Good news, is that it makes no difference where Jerry puts us. He's really down on the SEC, much of it deserved, but he takes it to the extreme. Even after UK beating MO, he still has only UF and MO in the tourney and UK on the outside looking in.

after seeing his rankings the last few years between football and basketball I put little to no importance in what he says.

We cooked ourselves by losing at Ark and Mizz. Painful to say, but we don't deserve a 1 seed.

Playing the regionals out west in LA, against the Zags would be my second LEAST favorite only behind having to play IU in Indianapolis...much rather be a two or three in Texas or DC than that. Of course I also think the Zags are not a good matchup for us, (two good bigs).. but that's subjective, I'm sure you're not alone in thinking the Zags would be the easiest one seed.

For the uninitiated, Jerry Palm is basically the guy who invented Bracketology. He's the best there is in my opinion.

I agree that he's been too negative on the Gators - this year at least. It's not a recurring thing.

When he comments on Florida, he usually cites our inability to win a tough game on the road as the reason he has us below teams like Gonzaga (which has 3 wins over the top 26 away from home) and Michigan (4 wins over the top 37 away from home). We have one win against a top 50 team away from home, and that was #27 MTSU in Tampa, which is pretty close to a home game anyway.

Yep. We also have a tough time winning ANY close game.

Last year at this time, I argued against the prevailing sentiment on this board, that Florida deserved no worse than a two seed. At this time, i see Florida as a 2/3 with a chance to drop further depending on how we finish out the year. While our out of conference schedule was very good, we really could've used a win against K State, Arizona or Georgetown and the overall state of the SEC hurts. Tonight is an important game if we want a really high seed. I really like this year's team and absolutely think they have a chance to surpass last year's team in the tournament (once we are healthy) but our resume doesn't distinguish us from teams like Michigan and it could get worse depending on how games like UT and the SEC Tournament go.

I agree Palm is the best, but Palm is wrong here. A three seed would be a complete joke. I hope it happens, makes the team even the slightest bit hungrier and motivates PY an iota more.

Crappy teams do not destroy opposing teams, which is what the Gators have done most of the season. Twenty two ass kickings with two close road losses [that we choked], and two road/neutral beat downs should be, at a minimum, a two seed in his current bracket.

You can't dismiss the margin of victory in our wins against Marquette and Wisconsin, on the road against FSU, and in SEC play.

Palm is decent, but only slightly better than Lunardi:
http://bracketproject.50webs.com/rankings.html

I am 7th, and should be higher but didn't get to count my '09 bracket since I didn't post it online.

Wish I had time to keep an updated site like Palm/Lunardi do but can't at the moment so I give them credit, but then again they do it for a living.

If we drop road games against UT, UK and have an early SECC-T exit, we could drop down to 4 to 5 seed range.
