Default Yoga violates US Constitution?

I've never understood the animosity some have toward yoga. And now there's this:

Quote:
A lawsuit has been filed against a San Diego-area school district for its student yoga curriculum, claiming the exercise classes are "inherently and pervasively religious."

The National Center for Law and Policy filed the lawsuit on Wednesday on behalf of Stephen and Jennifer Sedlock and their children, who are students in the Encinitas Union School District.

The district last fall began offering yoga during physical education classes. Children have the choice to opt out of the program.

The Sedlocks allege the school district is not complying with the California constitution’s right to religious freedom. The lawsuit also calls the children participating in the program "religious guinea pigs."

In a press release issued by Escondido-based National Center for Law and Policy, attorney Dean Broyles said the Encinitas yoga program was a "breach of public trust" that sets a "dangerous precedent."

"This is frankly the clearest case of the state trampling on the religious freedom rights of citizens that I have personally witnessed in my 18 years of practice as a constitutional attorney," Broyles said.

It has to do with the ignorant hostility atheists feel towards any mention of 'spirituality'. They literally do not know what 'spirituality' means nor understand how it differs from religion.

Filed perhaps as a legitimate reductio ad absurdum for "Lemon" to see hoe tightly applied it is to non-Judeo-Christian concepts.

I understand the spirituality of yoga. However I practice it strictly for the physical benefit. As usual the hypersensitivity of our culture is astounding.

I don't think this lawsuit is being brought by atheists.

I dislike yoga because I don't have the patience to learn the moves...

That said I wish I could because the I truly believe it would physically beneficial...

The liberal lawyer Broyles either doesn't get out very much to make that statement or is desperate for a second chin. So many lawyers live in ivory towers 24-7 these days.

I can't see an argument by which yoga in school can survive "Lemon" if student led prayer at a football game or graduation can't. Unless one is going to tacitly acknowledge that "Lemon" is only read against Judeo-Christian friendly policy.

Hurt my back years ago doing Hapkido using improper technique on a hip throw. I have been doing yoga for over 20 years, have better flexibility than most teenagers and zero back issues. My kids all do it too. It takes patience, discipline, is hard and you can feel and look ridiculous at times. But the benefits outweigh the burdens. To me it is the best exercise in the world. FYI, i am a practicing Southern Baptist.

Usually find it's the extremely religous that have a problem with it. Somehow they think it infringes on their religion.

Worked out with a couple that wouldn't participate in the Yoga sections because they said it wasn't a "Christian" thing to do.

You can get into the spirituality of Yoga. I practice it strictly for the moves and exercise. If the school is strictly teaching it as an exercise, this lawsuit is BS.

I began taking yoga for back pain as well. It quickly went away. Then I realized I was becoming more and more flexible, then saw some great strength gains. Then I just wanted to do the hard stuff because its challenging and fun. I have never thought of it as religion, but I also enjoy some of the quiet reflection you get.

There's something for everyone. I couldn't recommend it more.

Come on, our résumé speaks for itself. You guys have covered the SEC. You've seen where we've played, who we've played and the quality of football teams we've beaten. We'll play anyone anywhere."

Ah, Encinitas. Surfer dude hot spot of the '60's. Hotel California of the '70's.

Spells and incantations, media playas, and Acapulco Gold in the wayback days, forty-five years ago.
