“I grew up in a bad neighborhood," Floyd said. “I didn’t have much coming up. My father was in and out of jail. Going to elementary school, I wore the same pair of clothes every day and I was picked on all the time. I wanted to drop out of elementary school."

Aside from sports, nothing came easy. Things weren’t easy on the home front.

“I think it’s fair to say I was abused growing up," Floyd said. “Pretty much every day or every other day. Extension cords, belts, broomsticks, bamboo sticks, whatever."

I thought the supposed draft gurus were nuts for not having him rated higher to begin with . Floyd is a stud. He's naturally a big strong bull in the middle who is also athletic. We didn't have to beef him up. He was a 300+ pounder naturally. He was already strong as an ox when we signed him and had really good feet.

How often do you see athletic 300 pounders who have good technique and who have their head squarely on their shoulders like he does? Not very often. When you have a chance to get one you TAKE HIM. You're a fool if you don't. Good receivers and backs come along regularly. Stud DT's like him do not. You can build your whole Defense around a couple of big strong bulls in the middle of your DL.

Everyone is always looking for the low risk "sure thing" type of player... Honest to God I truly believe that Floyd is a SURE THING to be a pro bowl type player and will be a starter for YEARS in the NFL. The guy is one of the best to ever come through here.

Huh, he led us in recieving and was the best TE in the conference despite having only spotty QB play, he needs to work on his blocking no doubt but he knows how to play TE.

I never understood why some boards had him as a second rounder during the season. Were they even watching the games? The NFL loves few things more than muscular 300-pound tackles with great quickness and competitiveness. I assumed he would be a mid-first rounder, but given how much pro GMs covet tackles like Floyd it would not surprise me to see him going in the top ten.

I read something a scout said over the weekend about Sharrif Floyd, which was basically that they don't bother looking at tape of junior players until the player has officially declared for the draft, so the initial assessments of players tend to be skewed towards seniors. He said that all changed once they started putting Floyd's tape on.

Warren Sapp was on NFL Network earlier today and said he'd looked at tape of all the linemen in the draft and that the only one that really jumped out at him and made him go wow was Sharrif Floyd.
