But these kids going to Bama know the deal, they know Bamas academic standing, and that's what they want.
Why should these kids be forced to go to a school that they do not want to go to because there is a greater chance of being there for 4 years?

The question should be, why should these kids be forced to find something else when the school kicks them to the curb? I'm not talking about transfers after they can't break the depth chart. I'm talking about the ones that gray shirt only to be told they no longer have room for them, or those that get cut loose before they even get started. If your going to recruit a kid, at least give him time and a shot to show what he can do.

Because they already know the deal up front. They are deciding to take the risk. To those kids, that risk is worth it. If it wasn't then go elsewhere.

You can say this about dealing drugs too, but it doesn't make it right nor legal.

I don't like Bama one iota, but Saban is turning these boys into well-spoken, prepared to be productive citizens, young men, for the most part. They dress properly, show respect and discipline, and obviously have taken several public speaking courses. His players impress me and I guaran-damn-tee you, I ain't easily impressed.

Good article on the personal cost of "roster management".

I don't understand why kids who were good enough to be drafted by Alabama in the first place end up at a community college a year later. What gives?

After reading above some of the man crush comments about the Honorable Coach Nick Saban and his premier Alabama program, I was thinking of starting a lovefest thread for Gator posters titled, "If Only We Could Be Like SuperCoach Nicky."

Repped. I find these people that you speak of to be delusional, thinking Nick is "doing things the right way."
I despise that cheating jerk.

I think Saban could teach the scientologists a thing or two about recruiting.

Yep, he'd even show Tom Cruise & John Travolta how it's done.

He's winning titles, isn't that the definition of the right way?
Many of you are talking about morals, but to me the immoral thing is to force what you want on others. You'd rather tell a kid that wants to go Bama that he can't because you think it's not in his best interest, even though the actual player and his family does.
Yep...forcing your choices on others is the "right" way.

Rule are rules unless you're Saban.
I haven't heard one person here mention "morals" - that's your own invention.

This. And even if we did, whats so immoral about wanting to be moral?
The thought that its immoral to "force" you morals doesn't float with me. (Sorry @matthanuf) I think morals factor into everything. They are akin to ethics. There are things in this world that are flatly immoral. Not saying that this conversation equates to morals, but its just a side opinion, I'm dropping into the conversation.

It is called roster management within the rules as they are currently written. The players know ,after all this time, to buy into the 'program' or be gone. Perform academically, athletically and keep your 'nose' clean or GTFO.
Saban is dead serious and his players know not to test him on it. Not a bad philosophy with today's entitlement player mentality in my opinion and one WM is trending toward. Lack of bodies has made it hard for him to fully implement.
Now, Bama booster's may be cheating, but Saban doesn't know anything about it, by design.

I hate to say that I agree with Bama methods, but the fact remains that if they aren't breaking rules then there is nothing wrong with what they do. However, we should be loud in our recruitment of guys considering Alabama in our informing them of the consequences for those players who don't pan out.
Maybe even hire some kids that got the short end of the Bama stick to tell it like it is to parents of new recruits.
Show them the ruin of so many promising athletes that are treated like commodities by Saban to maximize his success rather than like human beings.
