I think people just want to see that they can win a close game. Don't think it is based on data

I don't think "we need a close win". I'd be content with blowing everybody out. I just think we have to avoid a couple more of these "close losses" that can mess with them psychologically.

You would think this wouldn't be a major issue for a team full of players that has been playing together for this long and has been to two elite 8s

People underestimate the psychological side of sports. You have seasoned veterans that occasionally still need to see a sports psychologists for slumps or the yips.

Having a quality away victory is not necessary I think. Away games are obviously hard when the crowd is really into it like tonight. But we aren't going to face that type of crowd in March.

Duke Basketball had an 0-2 record in close games during the 2009-2010 season until they played at Boston College. They won by 3 points against a team that finished with a losing record. Overall that regular season they were 1-3 in games decided by 8 points or less. Would they have been in big trouble had they won @ Boston College by 13 instead of by 3?

Well if anything, those two "chokes" in the Elite 8 could be affecting us psychology. I can see some of our players thinking "here we go again." That's why I'm scared of the Elite 8 game if we get that far this year. I can see our players getting tight because they are scared of repeating the last three years. Hopefully I'm just being overly pessimistic.

Yes we are. The crowd goes crazy for the underdogs in NCAA games.

Not to the level of what we have seen at Zona and Mizzou.

It will be nice for UF to win the SEC. A decent seed is helpful sometimes. Still the bottom line is how you feel about this season will be determined in March.

We are done. We get to the sweet 16 at best.

I want to thank a number of posters here tonight for convincing me that I am not the most pessimistic one here

Wes, you know as well as the rest of us that this particular group of players has been unable to win close games that count. For the last two years in the NCAA Tournament, we have had +10 point leads, only to give them away and lose the game. This year, we've had that twice already.
There may be no quantitative data that supports the argument, but if you've ever played sports you know that once the monkey latches on, it's hard to throw off your back. This team needs an opportunity to do that before a repeat of the last two years hits us again.

I disagree. I've been at many NCAA games and when a 1, 2 or 3 seed gets taken to the wire, the crowd goes absolutely nuts for the underdog.

Well, in that case it will be nothing we haven't seen before. If the crowd still gets to us at that point, we really didn't deserve to win it all this year anyways,

I remember at the end of late season meltdown last year, people were predicting we would lose the first game in the SEC and NCAA tourney.

Louisville was a better team than us. They proved not to be a fluke by getting to the finals. As for Butler, I was thankfully on a plane to Phoenix during the game and never saw it, so I can't comment.
I really don't understand the angst. This is the team we have and what happens will happen. This is not the second coming of the 04's or Tarkanian's bunch. This is a Top 10 team and shouldn't be confused for some elite team, history making team.
If we make it to the end, it will be a wonderful thrill for me, but I have no illusions.

We're going to beat Indiana by 11 to win it all. Book it now.

If we go to Tennessee and to Rupp and win I'll be happy, I don't care by how much. What I don't want to see is anymore 10 to 12 point leads disintegrate in the last five minutes. If we have a 12 point lead and take it to 20 I'll be perfectly happy.
