Sign of the times. Years ago Florida fans showed up in great numbers for "ALL" games not just games of greater impact. Now with the upcoming national championship series
the bowl games have been made second tier and that is not a good thing for college football. Those who insisted on a true NC game have inadvertantly hurt the game. Going to any of the major bowls (Orange,Sugar, Rose, Cotton &even the Gator Bowl) used to be a great thing for fans but like the age of today it's a disappointment and that's too bad.

Well, that combined with the fact that anything less than a crystal ball is a letdown for all of the upper tier programs now. When ole miss, vandy, miss st, uk, or Tenn go to the sugar, it will be packed. Just like it was in 93.

Taking the BCS games off New Year's Day has also hurt the attendance as well.

There still are teams and fans happy to go to a BCS bowl or even one of the second-tier bowls like Capitol One. I think the only ones that are really unhappy are fans who thought their team had a realistic chance at the NC game and blew it (e.g. UGa fans).
What IMO is really killing the bowls is partly the proliferation in the number of them but even worse is the sorry match-ups brought on by conference affiliations and the rules about what teams can and can't go where. For example, if UF had played Oregon instead of Louisville I think the attendance would have been much better.

the ACC should start scheduling their title game as a home game for the higher seeded team to avoid these embarrassing games with low attendance.

Well sure, a win over FLORIDA is a much bigger deal than a win over Cincinnati, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh. I would imagine Utah was more proud of their Sugar Bowl victory over a team that didn't win its conference than they were over winning the Mountain West in 2008.
