Figured I'd do my part to get this thread back on track.

Here's my Spike's Tactical 16" Midlength AR-15. I don't normally run a bipod but just got back from sighting in the Eotech with the magnifier added at the range. Mods and accessories: Eotech EXPS 3-4, Eotech G33.STS, Magpul MBUS flip up sights, Spikes Adjustable low-profile gas block, 12" Spikes BAR rail, Tac latch charging handle, Magpul MOE stock, some cheap VFG (for indexing hand position, not gripping like a handle), Ergo Grip, Magpul BAD lever. Awaiting delivery: Haley Strategic Inforce WML with thorntail offset mount. Future plans: Surefire brake and Geissele SSA 2-stage trigger.

Remington 700 SPS Stainless .300WM w/ Leupold VX-II 4-12x40 AO scope with custom M1 drop and windage compensation for my typical load (Hornady SST 180gr).

Sig P229 DAK .40S&W SigLite sights & Sig P239 SAS .40S&W or .357 Sig (have both barrels) w/ TruGlo TFO sights.

No pics at the moment, but here's my list:

Bushmaster AR-15 (got it brand new for $895 a few days after the shootings)
FNX 9 MM
FNX 45 ACP (coming in soon); someday I will complete the set and get the FNX 40 when the hysteria dies down
Kel Tec P3AT .380 ACP- still trying to break it in
Ruger 10/22 and Smith & Wesson MP 15-22 for cheap shooting

I'm also hoping my dad will let me keep his 1981 Dan Wesson 6-shot 357 revolver with a fixed 6 inch barrel. It's a thing of beauty

Totally outdated by WWII, the cylinder doesn't swing out...you have to unload each of the 7 chambers individually. The 98 grain target ammo made for it today is suitable for putting holes in paper or maybe shooting rabbits but not much beyond that. Fortunately, I was able to obtain the 108 grain Soviet military rounds which make it equivalent to about a .32 caliber revolver - not tremendously powerful but still lethal. Those rounds weren't cheap though.

Ultimately what I most want is the Pietta reproduction Le Mat revolver.

This puppy is reproduction 9 shot .44 caliber percussion pistol with a single shot 20 gauge shotgun under barrel. It was a favorite of the Confederate cavalry and proved to be a very effective weapon. Beautiful!

What do y'all have and what guns do you want to buy?

Only Russian pistol I've ever fired was a Marakov 9mm. Gotta be careful with those too because the slide can tear the meaty area between your thumb and pointer finger a new one if you have bigger hands.

I've been shocked to see how cheap the Hi-Points Polys are. Are they OK or just total pieces of crap?

Something that looks like this

I've seen Mach 1 .45 cal acp's at between $400 and $450 as well as the Girsin 1911 series and a few others. Does anybody have any insights into any of these?

Have a perfect suggestion.

Go Regent brand 1911's. All steel, blued usually. They're usually under $500 and are quality 1911 platforms. I have one in a .45 cal.

I also have a Colt 1911 .22 LR that I love to target shoot with.

1911's are, IMO, the best gripping pistols I've ever fired, at least for me.

Does anybody have any experience with them? From what I've read, they're supposed to be pretty solid guns and as an added bonus, they're made in good ole Florida.

Don't, you won't like the trigger, the mechnaisms tend to break, and their small concealed weapons are usually built rather cheap.

You want a quality .380 or 9mm conceal carry, go with the Ruger LCP or LC-9. You won't be disappointed.

Here ya go. A damn nice handgun, the .380 Ruger LCP.

I conceal carry the Ruger 9mm LC-9 9mm with Crimson Trace laser, which is only a little bigger. 6 inches in length, about 3/4 an inch wide, and weighs only 23 ounces fully loaded wih 7+1. Great, reliable weapon breaks down into only 5 parts for easy cleaning, and has very good stopping power up to 40 yards with the right ammo.

Thanks Gray.....I got the Keltec and like it. If it ever breaks there is a lifetime warranty on the gun so I just mail it back to the factory and they fix it.

For 1911's...I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I should go with the midprice ones (eg $700-$900) rather than the really cheap ones ($500+/-). The ones I'm looking at the most are the Remington R1 and the Para Ordnance P14 and Para Ordnance GI exert (14 rd capacity version).

I like the hi cap mags for the Para's but the Remington has all the classic lines, is 90% the exact same gun as what they produced for the govt in their initial contract during WWI and you can find 'em in the $600 range. Both Remington and Para Ordnance have good reputations for quality.

I'm open to suggestion from anybody who knows 1911's...just know I like the classic design best, want one that's blued or black oxidized, and I'm not big on skeletonized triggers or hammers....and of course it needs to be really reliable as in I pull trigger and gun goes bang-no matter freaking what.

Then you can't go wrong with a Remington 1911. Well built, reliable, solid. I'd like to have one in .45 cal as my next handgun.

As I pointed out, I have a Colt .22LR 1911 that is a bad-ass all black steel weapon, but I'd like another 1911 in 9mm too.

The Regent I bought is a tough, reliable brand for around $500. Amazing thing about 1911's is that they don;t have a lot of kick to them because they're a very balanced platform, and you can drop one in a ud puddle, pick it up, and fire another 100 rounds through it without a problem.

Little thing I learned about 1911's that have been been dirtied, the slide will literally eject the dirt out of the gun as you fire it. Just an amazing hand gun design IMO.

They're designed for part spacing when you remove surface rust or whatever and they still fit together well.

Simply awesome! After the 1911, a Luger p08 will be my next acquisition.....to get a Tommy Gun or a B.A.R. I'd need to be licensed for fully automatic weapons and that's (along with the ammo) an expensive PITA.

IMO it was well into the 1950's before better submachine guns were made than the Thompson. It was way better than the cheap pieces of crap made with stamped parts that all of the Allies came out with (eg, the Grease gun, the Sten and the one the Rooskies made...forget the name). The Schmeizer was the only thing remotely close in terms of quality....which is really saying something for a gun that was literally on the docks to get shipped over at the end of WWI.

The B.A.R. was THE best light machine gun in the world...easily....during WWI. By WWII the MG 34 was comparable and the MG 42 was clearly better. "Hitler's Buzzsaw" was a big leap forward and the M60 was largely a copy of it.

Congrats, you've got some very cool and historic weapons.

Smith & Wesson M&P 9c Tijicon Night Sights.
Bushmaster AR-15 W/ Aimpoint PRO Red Dot.

Smith & Wesson Model 1000 12 guage. At least 42 years old as my dad got it for me for my 16th birthday from a pawn shop in Jax.

1954 Belgium A 5.

1957 Winchester 30-30.

Still working on how to attach evidently.

mb

how to attach pics

just put img in brackets like this [] followed by the url followed by /img also in brackets. It will post your pic....you can just find somebody's post where they've posted a pic and hit "quote" and you'll see exactly how it works. Hope that helps.

for example

Smith & Wesson model 1000 12 gauge

for the 1957 Winchester 30-30....you mean the lever action like this one right?

You had a freakin' piat gun?...as in the British anti-tank weapon? LOL! Awesome.

The Walther p-38 is cool (many don't realize it was the first double action autopistol - and that it and not the Luger was the standard sidearm of the Wehrmacht in WWII)....but I just prefer the luger. I want a p08 complete with the Nazi proof marks. Those things are just gorgeous. I just went to a gun show yesterday and saw the Japanese luger knockoff they used as their sidearm in WWII. It wasn't bad but the original was still a lot prettier IMO.

I'd eventually like to get a M1 Garand also. Its what I was trained on and marched with in the Navy School I went to (they were given 'em surplus by the Govt. so that's what we had....heavy beyotch to march with and the 30.06 ammo is heavy as hell too). Probablly because of that, no other rifle has ever felt as comfortable to me as the Garand. I don't like the bolts on the Mosin-Nagant and Lee-Enfield. The Mauser k98 is my 2nd choice after the Garand.
