I really don't know what the link you included has to do with this. That thead includes you showing that you have no idea what politically correct means. I could see how that would be upsetting to you. Here's a challenge to you: see if you can identify 3 differences between the claims made in the two threads. I bet you can't, but who knows!

Not as big a fraud as many, but if he was still here, history might write his story differently.
If not for cancer , this might be Valvano's legacy:
---------------
"UNFORTUNATELY, there is no way to know how much of his account is factual. Golenbock swears he taped all of his conversations, but refuses to release the tapes in order to protect his unnamed sources. The one source he does name, team manager and Valvano confidant John Simonds, had his arm dislocated by a Valvano assistant after telling Golenbock the behind-the-scenes nitty-gritty.

More:
--------------
Valvano's record, off the court, is horrible. Despite taking courses as demanding as "Leisure Alternatives," few of his players graduate. Several, like Cozell McQueen and Chris Washburn, could not read before or after their N.C. State "educations." And Washburn has been in and out of drug rehabilitation since his stereo-stealing college days

I dont know how even he can look himself in the eyes and believe anything he says. He must be a robot. Phony is probably the perfect word to describe his act.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree...
(1) was 13-1 in his second season phony? ...so we beat all those people and win a MNC with smoke and mirrors?
(2) ...was he phony at getting about every thing possible out of a drop back passer in Chris Leak?
(3) was 13-1 and winning a 2nd MNC in his fourth season phony as well?
(4) were all those top/highly ranked recruiting classes fakes and phonies too?
(5) was going 12-0 in just his first season in Columbus fake?
(6) was going 12-0 at a place like Utah fake and phony?
...I'll concede that his departure from Gainesville was poorly done. But he's been about the best coach in the country outside of Tuscaloosa for about 10 + seasons now...in three different regions of the country. ...And the guy is FROM Ohio! I'll also say that there is a flakey aspect to his personality...but then again people like Tisla, Einstein and Van Gogh were also thought of as 'flakey'...but the results of their overall body of work say otherwise.

Jimmy V was a good find. He was out of my initial thoughts on this but I can agree he is deserving to be in this discussion. Much of my family is from the Raleigh NC area and Jimmy V was considered by many of the locals, including sportswriters to be a slime ball. At a local sports bar that my uncle frequented, Jimmy was often seen, or rather heard, hanging out for hours. He was a terrible braggart and loudmouth especially when pumped full of libations. This is not an uncommon trait but not necessarily one that you would want to see from one of your college coaches.
Jimmy V's death is one of the rare events that I would call a 'timely death'. Before I get roasted for that seemingly insensitive comment I'll explain. What I mean is that his death and ultimately his cancer foundation have made many of the critics either forget or choose to be silent about the many short-comings of his life and career. He has been essentially canonized and I think he would have been exposed as a cheat, liar, and generally a bad person had he not been afflicted with that terrible disease. Whereas, cancer prematurely ended his life, it also galvanized a positive spin on the life of a man who by many many accounts doesn't deserve any adulation at all. ESPN and Dicky V have essentially re-written the history books on this guy, for good or bad.

Yeah, living up here for years now, I get the same feeling. NC state fans of course love him....outside of that...not so much. I believe him and Dicky V were close, so that explains that...he gave the "Dont give up speech" at the ESPY's...so that explains that.
I know he was a genuinly good family man, but as a coach seems to have been willing to win at all costs.
So while I think he was a geniuine person, who many seem to think straightened out near the end, his glory days on the court were indeed phomy

Thanks. I did not know that about Jimmy V. Did he promote himself as some kind of upright guy while doing those things or was it the people after his death rewriting who he was? Perhaps the real phonies in the story are Dicky V (are they family? ) and ESPN.

Did he actually cheat?
Lots of coaches have big mouths and don't graduate their players.
