What's the deal with Powers? Ground out on a 1-0 count in the 2nd inning? What was he thinking?

Go GATORS!

Great win to take the series. Powers is a guy I personally have touted since he signed with UF out of Tampa. Like his game a lot and hope this is just his coming out party. He can give this team a huge boost in the lineup and defensively as well. Most of these guys are very young. Bader and Martin at the top of the line-up just need at bats and experience at this level. Both struggle a bit understanding how to hit when ahead in the count. Another words, taking pitches and working the count to their favor. They have to remember, their goal is to get on base to use their speed. This is what we got so used to seeing day in and day out from Nolan Fontana.

Like to see us move Powers to one of the corner OF positions or 1B. Ramjit is a liability in the field no matter where he plays. DH is really is his best spot. Like the guys like Dicks and Reid, very athletic guys. Dent is off to a great start but still not sold on him as an every day guy. He just has little to no pop in that bat. But hey, hope he proves me wrong. Teams are going to challenge Gushue behind the plate. His throwing needs much work. Three errors in a weekend series is a lot for any catcher. Pitching is still our strength. Games against most any body can and will be a challenge. That is, JU, UCF, UNF, Stetson, all these games will be tough and could go either way. The good thing is we saw a very young team show some promise. The key is to identify the right combination of guys in our line-up that can help us when we get to the SEC. Duke is no where as good as teams in the middle to upper half of the SEC.

Agree with most of the post....but I think Ram is a very good defensive first baseman. Butcher at third, and kind of like Tucker in RF.
Oh, and Gushue had 4 errors this weekend. Z had 3 last year for the entire season.

You lost all credibility calling Ramjit a defensive liability. He is an outstanding defensive first baseman. Outstanding!

some of what i observed at the practices were affirmed to some degree in this first series, to wit:

ramjit having some problems in RF, Powers at 1st - trying to get used to being a first baseman, - obviously, you need him in the lineup somewhere.

seeing cody out in CF - making terrific throws, but maybe not having the wheels, and it seemed cody was on the verge of making a breakthru at the plate too.

you know, players like zunino and fontana are special so you can't really get on their replacements all that much. still, you are right, you know gushue is going to be constantly challenged.

with reid, dicks, mitchell, roberson, et. al, we have alot of interchangeable parts. would like to see them all get a chance in the early going to see who are the 'gamers'.

Sorry Matside, but Ramjit has terrible feet. Not a bad player but certainly questionable whether he should be an every day guy but we shall see how well he contributes with out the guys to protect him from last year. I have watched him since high school and he is pretty much the same defensively. Powers is a much better athlete then Ramjit without question.
