Bottom Line: it IS a hilarious punchline.

Whew! Safe?!
I wonder how much if this is generational. I was a student 1980-83, then again 85-87. I feel strongly about those 83-84 teams and appreciate what was built despite the probation etc.
I started buying season tickets in 1990 and ever since. The joy of that first SOS game still jacks me up. I cannot and will not let anyone deny that SOS turned the SEC on its ear. He simply found a way to get someone wide open over and over. 3rd & 15 was almost a gimme, 20-yard fade, done. And UF had barely ever done anything before. That was an incredible 12 years.
I'm a Meyer fan. I was and am thrilled with how he changed the culture of the program. I don't think it was his offense. It was toughness, dedication, and focus. 2006 was a bare knuckles year and 2007-09 was amazing. Yes he lost it horribly at the end.
But are we seeing posters for whom Spurrier is a stat sheet, a bygone legend? A UF freshman today was born in 1994-95, in first grade in 2001. Spurrier at UF is not in his living memory. Spurrier is for him what Ray Graves is for me - UF history.
Someday we'll be trying to get Tebow across to a young person and they might not get it. Imagine that.

Great perspective - with you all the way, including on those 80s teams.

I agree. The Great Wall was awe inspiring. There are some great memories of the teams from those years.

Even when he's awarded his spot in the Ring of Honor? (Guaranteed. 2016 at the latest.)

I believe some very ardent, bitter Bullgators will push to have the rules modified.

To me the Ring of Honor should be for players, not coaches.

Probably a good rule but a bit late to start chipping away at the rules. It would seem weird, for example, for FSU to have a Ring of Honor that didn't include Bowden, or one at Alabama that didn't include Bear Bryant.

My only complaint with UM is the way we got jacked around by him his last year or so - resign, leave of absence, return (sort of), then resign again, all in the space of about a year, then take another coaching job a year after leaving despite all he said about health, family, etc. But I don't know how anyone can seriously claim he isn't an outstanding coach and didn't do an outstanding job here except for that last year.

Did I just read this? Also Derrick Harvey was a first round pick.

At this point, its probably a good idea since its impossible for people to stay on topic. After a couple of replies about the actual OP, every Liar-related thread turns into:
- Meyer is a scumbag
- Meyer won us 2 NCs
- I don't like the way he left
- But Spurrier left too, then joined a team within the SEC
- Meyer vs Spurrier accomplishments
- what was the OP about again?
/thread
they're all the same really

If Cam hadn't screwed up we would have never seen all that much of John Brantley- he'd be remembered as "Johnny, that legacy who came in during blowouts and played a bit" the lovable fan favorite who never started a game but was a decent QB nonetheless.

2) A friend of mine has a friend who knows Miller's aunt. The word from Columbus is that he'll be a first-round pick. Also, Meyer recruited Cam. 'Nuff said.
3) It really depends on how you look at it. Meyer lost to FSU after he had thrown in the towel; the Georgia loss came when Tebow was injured. Neither was a legitimate loss. That's what I hold.
4) But both of Meyer's SEC titles resulted in national championships. 'Nuff said.
5) Spurrier had a losing rekord versus Bowden. Meyer never lost to him. How can you compare them?
6) That's just not true.
7) I'll let you believe that if you want, but I know what I saw wif my own two eyeballs. Meyer's speech sent that team on a tear.
I never said Steve had to look over his shoulder. I don't know where that came from. I was stating that Meyer was simply a legend. Legendary figures give legendary speeches.
|
Goodness! I'm a Meyer supporter, but I don't think I've ever see a post with such epic fail in it. It would exhaust the bandwidth to rebut the errors. Has to be a troll effort or a joke. Nothing else.
