Possible New Rule
I just came across this article about a possible rule change for hits to the head. It looks like the rules committee is seriously considering an ejecting players from the game for those type of hits. I am not sure I like it because I have seen plenty of legit hits that were flagged and would result in an ejection from the game.
I can see this costing teams some games.

You know people know what they're doing when they play the sport.. They know what they're getting themselves into... They weigh it out and see if the risk is worth the reward, and to them it is. They have absolutely every idea of what they're getting themselves into, if you don like it don't play. People watch and pay for a contact sport with explosive hits. Take it all away or minimize it you get soccer, which the sport will become unwatchable. No one watches soccer.

Just watched it come across ESPN during Duke BB game. Has one more step to become
new Rule. Rule will focus on hits to WR and QB that are hit above shoulders that cannot
defend themselves prior to contact.

I can see the refs really coming after UF hard on this rule while of course Alabama slides. If it happens, you can bet we get the short end of that stick.

They should eject QBs for errant throws that cause the WR's to expose themselves. Eliminate those bad throws that are the root cause.
They should also eject WR's that fail to recognize they are exposing themselves by extending to catch errant throws that put them in a vulnerable position, thus risking their health and NFL careers.
They should provide automatic first downs for any QB that ducks and drops to avoid an onrushing D lineman because it might hurt, and auto first downs for any receiver that gets alligator arms and dives to avoid a collision errrrrrrrr I mean getting tackled.
This is the beginning of the end..... creep creep creep creep.

If it bec omes a rule I would hope that refs are restrained I their evaluation ofit. U fortunately I doubt they will be. Any team known for a hard hitting d will be targeted.

Whoever plays Bama in Atlanta better dress 120 or just accept getting scored on, because any hard hit is going to be an ejection.

If this rule is passed it needs to be reviewable

I agree with you adults know what they are signing up for but I believe rules like this are being looked at for the long term success of the game.
More evidence about concussions and brain damage continues to come out and more parents are turning their kids away from the game. If something is not changed the talent pool will shrink and the game as a whole will suffer.

I don't know about that. I saw a soccer player get brushed across the arm and they had to carry him off the field. It was vicious I tell ya.

The definition of "intentional" will clearly be in the eyes of the beholder.

There were plenty of fans back in the days of leather helmets, no face masks, etc. (I guess before face-mask penalties they had penalties for grabbing a player by the mouth.) Of course it can be argued that back in those days Americans simply hadn't learn yet to enjoy violence. (In the movies back then, even murder, if gruesome, had to committed off screen.)

I saw these refs call helmet to helmet and ended up being wrong. So now he could have players ejected for no good reason.

I am ok with this rule as long as the refs look at a replay to ensure the ejection is warranted.

Football is jumping the shark because of this type of stuff. The players are so big and fast now that the violence cannot be dismissed as "part of the game" anymore. Every rule change and oversight they stick in to dampen down the intensity of play to make the game safer will also make it less entertaining.
