Snopes' main bone of contention seems to be that the statements aren't provided with their full context and the quote presents an over-simplified narrative.

Which is certainly true, but she certainly said the stuff Bill quoted her as saying. I honestly don't think anyone could make the argument that Hillary is a pretty unapologetic progressive and those statements are closer to her political ideology than what you might want to admit.

These quotes were taken out of context in an attempt to make them look bad, but even at face value, there is is nothing wrong with any of them:

Quote:
1) "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
This is called taxation, and we've been doing since we became a country.

Quote:
2) "It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, and for the few...... And to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity."
This sounds like something that could have been said by the founding fathers.

Quote:
3) "(We) .....can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."
Yep, sometimes we have to make sacrifices.

Quote:
4) "We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own ... in order to create this common ground."
This is called compromising.

Quote:
5) "I certainly think the free-market has failed."
The free market fails all the time. A recent example is the financial collapse that led to the great recession.

Quote:
6) "I think it's time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector in (the) entire economy that they are being watched."
This was said about the oil industry but just as easily could have been said about the financial industry. Yep, we have regulatory watchdogs in this country, or at least we are supposed to.

I've heard many conservatives say "he who doesnt work, doesn't eat" which was a communist slogan, interestingly.

Probably because they were quoting the Bible. I believe it is in Ephesians but of course tu must read it in context. Basically, if you aren't driven to work to provide you can't expect to eat. I think that's right. But it is definitely in there cause I was reading it the other night.

My bad, 2 Thessalonians 3: 7-1

7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

I knew the origins were biblical, but its interesting that the slogan was appropriated by 19th-20th communists. Lenin:

Quote:
The socialist principle, "He who does not work shall not eat", is already realized; the other socialist principle, "An equal amount of products for an equal amount of labor", is also already realized. But this is not yet communism, and it does not yet abolish "bourgeois law", which gives unequal individuals, in return for unequal (really unequal) amounts of labor, equal amounts of products. This is a “defect”, says Marx, but it is unavoidable in the first phase of communism; for if we are not to indulge in utopianism, we must not think that having overthrown capitalism people will at once learn to work for society without any rules of law. (Chapter 5, Section 3, “The First Phase of Communist Society”)
"To each according to his needs" also has biblical origins.

I would add that at a speech at the University of SanFran about 10 years ago, she said, and I'll paraphrase, "the American people are incapable of taking care of themselves and that the government knows better at taking care of the people." It was in retaliation to the Bush tax cuts. She felt that to give tax money back to the american people was tantamount to wasting money better spent by the government. My jaw hit the floor when I saw that on TV.

I believe that Hillary is far more ideological than slick Willie. If she is elected I hope he is in the background somewhere moderating her extremism (if that were possible). On another note; because Hillary is also a Clinton, her liberalism will not prevent her from enriching herself from the public trough.

Really? Given that when Hillary said "the free market has failed" she was talking about all the sex, violence and celebrity worship that today's kids have been exposed to? You don't think that's a negative thing? Because I do. You don't think think the email was pretending that the free market has failed in a much broader sense, rather than simply what kids have been exposed to?

Of course, the email cut off the part where it was clear she was talking about kids and exposure to sex, drugs and violence.

Especially, since she also said "there is no greater force for economic growth than free markets" but the email somehow neglected to mention that.
