Nah..... Unless it is a guy with chronic problems like oden.... Our medical advances really minimize the risk. He will go and will be the top pick.

Funny. I tore my patellar tendon a year ago October and I'm still recovering. Doctor said 6 months to a year. Now granted I have slacked on PT but that surgery and recuperation took every bit of my inner quad muscle and it isn't something that grows back easily.

Let's hope it's something that he can heal from quickly. Dislocations look terrible and can be painful, but unless something else is injured at the same time, there can be a quick recovery.
He seems like a good kid, and he's certainly a terrific player. Let's hope he's back to his usual springy self soon.

Generally, if it is a patellar injury it's better than an ACL tear for his career long term. Patellar is a more severe injury and surgery but unlike an ACL tear you don't have the near 100% certainty of developing arthritis.
My surgery involved drilling three holes through the length of my knee cap and threading sutures through the knee cap and tying it off on the top of the knee. Came out of that with a nice 6" scar...

Interesting info some of you have posted about patellar tendon injuries. Hopefully that's just a rumor, but we'll see.
Here's the last image I'll post. Its probably the best angle we'll get of this.

Ouch that's a painful looking picture. Not quite as gruesome as Prothro's ankle was, but definitely not something you like to see for a good kid with the kind of outstanding talent Noel has.
Here's hoping it's better than it looks and prayers his way for a full and speedy recovery no matter the diagnosis.

These photos don't strike me as a patellar tear. Not saying it isn't but the lateral movement looks scary.

Best angle I've seen. That does not look good, but as Gotham said a dislocation can look terrible & not be as bad as some other injuries. Hope he recovers quickly.

Whatever the injury, I hope he can make a quick and complete recovery. I hate to see something like this.

Not to be a debbie downer but I would be pretty shocked if he came back at all this year...between the visible amount of pain he was in and the fact he couldn't even put weight on it, it is more than likely a tear, fracture, or dislocation....this is not just a simple bone bruise or hyperextended knee...and i cant think of any tear, fracture, or dislocation that would only keep him out for a month....i mean Yeguete is out for a month or so with a much less serious injury....

It is so hard to tell. Corey Brewer had several of those nasty looking injuries where he would writhe on the floor screaming in agony, get helped over to the bench, then be back on the floor in two minutes. Obviously Noel's looked far more serious than that, but some guys just have oddly flexible ligaments/tendons/whatever and are more malleable. I am that is the case for him. Regardless, let's also hope that Kentucky still loses and Calipari can tell us yet again after SEC league play or the SEC tourney how little all of this means to him because, in the end, he will have on nothing.

Well that sucks. All the best to him and his future. Hope for a speedy recovery.

I'm thinking ACL tear...season ending...I sure hope I'm wrong. He's a good kid...he doesn't deserve this.

I mentioned in another thrwad that I think the injury happened on the landing just prior to ho, hitting the padding. I think that photo may imply that as well.

not 100% sure if top pick....definitely top 5 though.
regardless of injury. I still wouldn't be sure he would be #1. certainly top 3. Regardless, no way he slips out of top 5
unless of course its a multiple ligament/tendon injury. after the oden situation, teams might be a little more cautious.

Seeing a couple reports that cite a "UF source" stating torn patella.
But at this point its probably just web chatter.

is that something that they did a cadaver on or did they take a muscle strand?
I've had some friends that were pretty decent athletes that were really taken down a notch or two after reconstructive knee surgery.
personally, I blew detached a ligament off of my ankle bone about 4 years ago.....didn't get the recommended surgery and have never been the same since. even on an every day basis

I hate this for any athlete, good or bad. Knees and ankles are fragile. Basketball puts so much stress on them. How any person could play basketball till they are 37-40 yrs old, and not have problems before or after, would be a freak. I played organized ball from the time I could dribble to HS, then on playing on concrete wherever I could get in games. At nearly retirement age, I know I am facing replacement of both knees and they hurt when I get up everyday. Luckily, I never had a ACL injury to my knee but scopes of both knees have been done. I guess like a lot of other people that have played organized sports, I have a lot of compassion for the guys that play and when anyone, Noel or one of our guys gets hurt, I know it only takes one second to change your life of a springy, fast athlete. To Noel, I hope for the best, as he seemed to be a human eraser to use the term the media has been using. Also, a good recovery to where he can play at a high level. I know he was the heart and soul of this Kentucky team and they are devastated.
I am also sorry we didn't get a stretcher, wheelchair courtside to help him off the court. Good Luck Nerlen, as a college basketball fan you were fun to watch.

Nope. Since I had a clean tear the doctor just pulled it back up to the knee cap. Not sure what they would have done if the tendon tore in the middle. I don't think that is very common.
