4 Tide freshmen arrested, released
Updated: February 12, 2013, 10:10 AM ET
ESPN.com news services
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A former five-star recruit for the Alabama Crimson Tide was arrested for the second time in two days and was among four freshmen who face charges of second-degree robbery or fraudulent use of a credit card stemming from Monday arrests.
Eddie Williams, who was also a safety in high school but did not play a down at his listed position as a receiver for Alabama in 2012, was first arrested Sunday on a charge of carrying a pistol without a license.
Defensive end D.J. Pettway (second-degree robbery), and linebackers Tyler Hayes (second-degree robbery) and Brent Calloway (fraudulent use of a credit card) were arrested Monday along with Williams, according to online records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
In addition to the Sunday gun charge, Williams faces second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card charges.
All four were released from the county jail Monday night on bonds of $65,000 for Williams, $60,000 for Pettway and Hayes, and $5,000 for Calloway.
Pettway was named to the All-SEC freshman team for his work at defensive end, recording 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss.
Hayes, a former four-star linebacker in the 2012 class, had 14 tackles, including two in the Crimson Tide's BCS National Championship Game rout of Notre Dame, with most of his work coming on special teams.
Calloway, arrested for marijuana possession in 2011, played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman. He started off the year at linebacker before moving to H-back, where he carried the ball 10 times.

Saban is slipping. Even the cops in T-town aren't able to sweep this one under the rug.

This is good news. A friend of mine is a police officer from Pensacola. He just transferred to Tuscaloosa a couple months ago. I kept telling him that Tuscaloosa cops let Bama athletes get away with everything. I can only hope that he is part of the reason that the police department is being more strict. Then again, it would be hard for any police department to overlook something like this.

I wonder how Kiffin missed on this group of players. They will transfer to USC now maybe.

ah, Horney Goat Weed. I don't know if I trust that stuff. Someone should have told Major Applewhite not to get high on his own supply.

This.
This won't faze them at all.
Saban is probably thinking "Well hell, this makes the cut to 85 this year easier, I don't even need to hand out fraudulent medical hardship scholarships".

I feel no joy hearing about young people making bad decisions, Bama football or not.

Kind of hard to sweep armed robbery under the rug. When they start making arrests for open container, smoking weed in a dorm, throwing a paper cup, underage drinking, drunk in public and of course "squaring" to a cop like some other less than discerning police departments we've all come to know and love, let me know.

Throwing into double coverage is a bad decision. Driving past a gas station with the fuel light on in your car is a bad decision. This is pure and simple criminal activity.
