LOL, I totally agree!! A kicker season threatening injury is surprising but most disappointing years you could do the same thing. 2001 no Earnest Graham injury Spurrier may have 2 titles and still be our coach...see how I did that? That season (2010) was doomed from the moment Meyer decided to 'delegate responsibilities'/ quasi-retire. You can sprinkle in Caleb's freak injury, Brantley's inability to do anything in the spread, Pouncey's inability to hike the ball, and Rainey's threatening text/suspension on top on the crap sundae that was 2010 but at the end of the day in was as abortion of a season only trumped by the following year.

The thing is if Brantley doesn't in 2011 the season is not that bad either. People act like Florida was terrible those two seasons but they were not at all.

I'm guessing you meant if Brantley doesn't get injured we aren't that bad in 2011? Florida was terrible in 2011, UF had some bright spots on defense and special teams but, as a whole, UF did not play good football. UF did it's damage against the cupcakes on our schedule, the elite teams blew us out and the moderates either gave us all we wanted or in most cases beat us. Brantley wasn't much of a game changer save one quarter against Bama; a game in which he threw as many TD's to them as he did to us.

I dont think UF was that bad in 2011. We were not tough enough to beat LSU & Bama but everybody else we could have beat. Florida was in every game that year besides those two. The major difference between 2011 and 2012 was turnover margin. I think we beat Auburn and UGA in 2011 with a healthy Brantely. And with that the team goes into the South Carolina game with a whole different mindset.

We were in those games because of defense and special teams but the offense literally struggled to get 1st downs, to me that's terrible but we can agree to disagree.

Lots of good discussion on this thread but I have to correct this gross inaccuracy. (If it was sarcasm, my apologies.)

From Wiki- Danny W was widely considered the top recruit in the state of Florida AND was USA Today's HS player of the year.

From my memory- he was recruited very hard by lots of schools. He could have gone anywhere in the country.

To compare to the 3 QBs mentioned...
Noah Brindise- is this a joke? Noah was a walk-on transfer from tiny Wingate college. Again- A WALK ON. This may have been Spurrier's greatest coaching job.

Doug Johnson- Was more highly regarded than Brindise but not even close to the state's top recruit. I think he was a 4 star but I can't find this.

Jesse Palmer- Hard to compare because he was from Canada but his hype and accolades were not even half of Danny's.

Danny was the best QB in Gator history and he could have done well anywhere in the country.

Nope, it was an inaccuracy. Thank you for the correction. I didn't follow recruiting nearly as closely back then, obviously.

Defense and special teams is 2/3rd of the game. It is the same reason we won games in 2012. You might not enjoy watching it but the team was not terrible.

Best throwing QB...yes....but, I think when you factor in athletic ability, overall team leadership and intangibles...its really hard to not give the "best qb" title to Tim Tebow.

But its great to have had both. They are arguable both in the top 10 college qbs of all time.

One team was offensively impotent and the other a grind it out ball control team that limited penalties and turnovers. You are entitled to you opinion but if you can't see a drastic difference in 2010 and 2012 I don't know what to tell you. Neither was prolific but 2010 could scarcely be considered a functioning offense...we struggled to hike the ball, need I say more??

Our offense was ranked 103rd this season.

The difference - almost exclusively - between 2010 through 2012, was turnovers.

Our offense is still relatively inept, it's just a little more careful in its ineptitude.

That was our passing offense, not our total offense. New receivers and a stout offensive line will change that this year.

I love it we can even have this discussion. To me it's like trying to argue which is the better color -- orange or blue. In my opinion, and it's just that, Danny was the greatest college football QB and Tim was the greatest college football player.

Danny's touch on the ball was incredible. I don't remember people throwing the fade pass before him. His sense of the field was uncanny. I remember hearing a talking head on ESPN radio in 1996 saying Danny shouldn't get the Heisman because he was merely a product of the system. I screamed at the radio, "You idiot. He's the one who makes the system work." I also remember reading that SOS would watch warm ups and think why is he starting Wuerffel over Kresser. Then the game would start and he would remember why.

The factors you mentioned about Tim are all true. Has there ever been a college football player who could will his team to victory like Tim. People knew exactly what was coming on short yardage and still couldn't stop him most of the time. And he was a much better passer than a lot of people give him credit for. I think he could quite respectable play most every position on the field. But it was not just his skill, it was also his leadership. Anyone could make "the speech." He backed it up.

I glad both were Gators.

The 2012 offense was still much better than either of those. Rankings don't tell the whole story.

As I alluded to earlier, I think the perception of "better" is largely rooted in the ability to not give up the ball. Obviously, I'd trade a #50th ranked offense that has a lot of turnovers to a #110th ranked offense that never turns the ball over. But that really doesn't play much into which is the "better" offense as it's generally measured.

No, he's right that's our total offense, our passing offense was even worse- 114th- basically every team we were ahead of in passing was a triple option team. Our 2010 offense was arguably better, our 2011 offense was worse due to turnovers. Honestly even our running game was not that great (decent but below for instance every Tebow running team) we just ran it so often that we accumulated a decent total.

John, did you see where Miami finished? #37 on that list. Why I mentioned it? Because that same OC is now going to be calling plays for the Jags this year.

Do you like Fisch? The few actual Miami fans I know raved about him and say he worked wonders for Morris. They say he's innovative and runs a wide open offense.
It's going to be another long year with Gabbert back there. Too bad the Jags did not have a top 2 pick last year.
