If they beat Duke in Cameron, then I'll be a believer. Until then, I see them as an early exit.

Sure feels like it but the voters do not look at Arky as the Arky of old. The SEC is an uphilll climb, respectwise in BB..

Nothing really matters with rankings because of the tournament at the end of the season, but that being said, we lose to Arkie and get dropped to number 7, but Indiana loses to an unranked Illinois and stays at number 1? That's kinda messed up.

If Miami beats Duke again in the 2nd game at Cameron, they'll probably be a #1 seed along with Indiana, Michigan, and Gonzaga.

The Coaches have us at #6, Miami at #4...a lot more accurate.
Our performance tomorrow night will tell you everything you need to know about us.

Particularly in the sport of basketball, I never put that much importance on a single game.
Seems like we've had a lot of games this year that would finally tell us "what kind of team we have"
Something tells me that even we beat UK tomorrow, there will be some more upcoming games that will need to be played to tell us "what kind of team we have."

I would be shocked to see Gonzaga get a top seed. The committee rarely every rewards teams outside of the major conferences, though everything is up in the air this season. Heck, I could see teams like Louisville and Kansas being in the discussion again if they right the ship and win their league tournaments. That's a stretch, to be sure, but I think teams 1-12 or so are almost indistinguishable at this stage.

Oh well. Polls are pretty worthless in college basketball anyway. As long as we don't lose more than another game or two in the regular season and get to the SEC tournament title game we should he right in the running for a 1 or a 2 seed.

C'mon loyal, you know there's more to it than the overly simplistic facts that you listed.
Ohio State "loses both games" - but what you didn't mention is that they were both to top 5 teams Indiana and Michigan.
Indiana "loses to an unranked team" - true, but they also beat a top 10 team on the road.
Michigan "somehow" jumped UF when "both teams go 1-1" - again, technically true, but Michigans win was against a top 10 team.
I think Florida is as good as any of these teams, but I don't think the rankings movement was as illogical as you suggest.

UF has yet to lose at home...how many teams ranked ahead of them can say that? The losses on the road for these power teams can be explained but losing at home should weigh heavily against you especially against an unranked team.

Sorry, I'm not buying the "it's okay if they win again" BS.
Kentucky is basing their entire season resume on beating us.
And if we don't man-up tomorrow night, we're in big trouble.
I would base the rest of our season on this one game.

It is very simple. Win no problems, we will go up in the polls. Lose and we go far down since the conference isn't all that good. Gee, Ark lost by 20 to Vandy. If we lose to Ky. we will lose at least 2 more. Missouri is like Ark. They are a different team at home and we don't have Will. I can't see us winning at Ky. either. Getting to the dance is all that matters. If we get Will back we can beat anybody.

This is one of my biggest issues with the rankings. You are supposed to win at home. I understand our home schedule hasn't been lights out, but our only losses are on the road in tough environments. 1 we should have won, the other was very fluky and the neutral court was far from neutral.
Rankings do not matter at this point, true. It is interesting to see a team like Gonzaga ranked so high.

You should hear the wailing on south Florida radio, namely Le Batard who's a scUM alum. "Oh why isn't Miami #1? This is a robbery!" I understand it's really important to a program that's never accomplished anything in its history, but come on guys. It's a poll.

Feel free.
But, I've seen posters that pretty much buried the chances of some past Gator teams based on isolated poor performances, even including the 2006/2007 team that had the same players back that had previously won a championship!
I think you should evaluate a team based on their entire body of work.
I posted as early as November of this season that I thought this team could be very special (and I wouldn't say that lightly), and the season to date has not made me re-evaluate that early impression. So, one game (which I do think we probably win) is not going to knock me off the bandwagon for this team.
