I believe this is the kind of sidearm carried by JEB Stuart, Major General CSA

In looking at 1911's (my next acquisition) I really like the Remington R1
and its within at least an acceptable price range to me ($600-$700). Its very old school because....Remington made some of the first 1911's for the US Army. It IS old school as about 90% of it is identical to the ones they made in WWI.
The one thing I wish they had changed though is to make it a double stack like the Para Ordnance p14
Having 14 rounds instead of a 7 round mag would be HUGE. I DESPISE the extension or well thingy on the clips though. Its not enough that a gun perform well. I have to like the way it looks. This is gun porn after all....

I've been thinking about making my next purchase a S&W M&P 9mm, sending it off to ATEi for custom trigger, grip, and slide work and adding a Trijicon RMR and supressor sights, adding a threaded barrel, and getting a can for it for home defense use. I love shotguns but in a home defense situation there is something to be said for being able to have a hand free if need be and still operate the weapon, and also for not blowing out your hearing on your first shot. Another option might be a sig p226 or another p229 with a factory threaded barrel. I love my current sigs (p229 and p239 in .40) but adding the RMR would be the challenge and I really like the idea of having something that operates on fiber optics with no need for batteries and is super easy to acquire a sight picture. Thoughts?

Love this thread, saw where it was mentioned about ammo and availability. I was a Bass Pro here in Fort Myers, and the shelves are empty. Gun Case was empty to. Crazy. The gentlemen at the desk told me that they were having problems getting guns back in the case and ammo, they said they couldn't keep .22 shells or .22 mag shells, that all of guys are taking there AR platforms and converting them to .22 mag. Maybe it will get better shortly. As far as my next purchase, I'm looking into getting something for my wife, any suggestions.

Not having much luck finding ammo around Gainesville or Ocala. Online seems to be the only option at this time and the price is high. Walmart on Archer road did have some 45 auto at $20.00 for 50 rds and a box of 40 auto. I have plenty of 45 at this time. I need 223 , 22 and 9. There is none in the local stores. I am just not shooting what I have and waiting for things to ease up.

VERY COOL! My g-g-grandfather was a Captain in the 53rd Tennessee Infantry. I have about a dozen direct ancestors who served in the Confederate army but he was the highest ranking one. I haven't researched all the distant cousins etc but considering my direct name-bearing ancestor landed in the Jamestown settlement in 1649 and the family lived in ole Virginny for the next 200 years, I'm sure I must have a ton of more distant cousins who served in the ANV.

It's getting better as the days pass and the hysteria of bans fade into the past. Ammo here isn't the best but the last three stores I went into (woods n water, Bass pro and simmons sporting goods) all had .223. That isn't an issue for me since I reload but powder is even hard to find now event the bullets themselves are getting rare.
I can make .223 cheaper than pre-scare prices and more accurate than pre-scare prices plus reloading is nice little hobby to go along with shooting.

I think the smart thing for me to do would be to start reloading. I have given it some thought. I have some many things going and not enough time to play with the toys I already have.

Keltec's first entry into the shotgun category (I don't own this...)
Quote:

The size, shape, and design is similar to the currently available Kel-Tec RFB rifle, but the KSG ejects downward, instead of forward. The KSG weighs 6.9 lbs. and is as compact as legally possible with a 26.1” overall length and an 18.5” cylinder bore barrel. Even with this compact size, the internal dual tube magazines hold an impressive 12 rounds of 12 gauge 3” rounds in total (6 per tube). It can also reliably shoot shells as short as 1 3/4" up to the 3"

I have a love for bolt guns right now, I'm gonna get a .204, the balistics are nuts on that little round.
