Not sure what's more depressing; us at #7 or Miami at #3.
Losing Yeguette was already depressing enough.
We have to beat Kentucky tomorrow night or it'll get ugly.

It is interesting in football if you win a close game against a terrible team that you could drop but not in basketball. Duke is lucky to win by a point against a terrible BC team yet it doesn't hurt them at all.

It's Duke. Nuff said. They could lose by 20 to Miami and still be ranked ahead of them... Oh wait

Basketball rankings are meaningless. Arizona beat both Miami and Florida, has only 3 losses, and we're ranked #9, behind both teams.

I think its ridiculous that we dropped that far, but it doesn't matter. If we take care of business, we have a good shot at a #1 seed.

Except for the unique circumstances of 2006/2007 (returning national championship team), for the first time in my life I would vote UF No. 1 in the nation (assuming Yeguete return and contribute).
That said, I like being ranked No. 7. If we can stay ranked in that neighborhood going into the NCAA Tourney, I'll be very happy. It's high enough to still get a great seed (maybe a #1), but low enough to be a little under the radar, not have the big target on our backs, and maybe keep a small chip on our team's collective shoulder.

Hit the nail on the head. In basketball, the voting mindset is 'win and move up, lose and move down.' Thats it!.
I'll use Kentucky (surprise surprise) as my example/prediction for this week. UK just got ranked 25th in the AP poll. Here's the thing. UK loses on the road by even 1 point to Florida (ranked 7th) and even if they win at Tennessee later this week, they will find themselves unranked next week. Isn't the 25th team supposed to lose on the road to the 7th? You're right, they care about this in football (granted thats where rankings matter more).
In basketball, according to voters, its MUCH better to barely beat two horrible teams in a week than it is to demolish a decent team and barely lose on the road to a great team.

I dont get why Indiana didnt drop at all after losing to unranked Illinois. I guess their victory over the bucknuts is fresh on voters minds.

Not that it matters but I think UF got screwed on this poll...Ohio St loses both games last week and only falls 3 spots, whereas we only lose 1 and fall 5 spots...Indy loses to an unranked team and doesnt fall at all...whereas UF loses to an unranked team and falls....also last week's poll had UF ahead of Michigan...both teams go 1-1 this week and Mich somehow jumps us, even tho the team that beat them is the team UF blew out earlier in the year....again its meaningless but I don't see how its logical....

The pollsters love their traditional basketball teams. Seriously? Indiana loses to an unranked team and gets rewarded for it?
and it is sickening how good Miami is right now. Their stadium actually has fans in it for once. Bunch of front running bandwagoners. They don't deserve that team

Miami is playong very well. I don't see them losing with their schedule that's remaining.
