We did need bodies, and we got that, so our depth and our talent is solid. We are still missing that elite pass rusher, so despite getting more total numbers than Bama, we didn't meet all of our needs, whereas Bama did meat all of their needs, including getting an elite pass rusher, and a couple of big bodies that can stop the run.

Again, it really comes down to how they develop. I'm surprised by the number of people who are overlooking (WDE) Jordan Sherit's signature. I haven't really seen him mentioned at all, and I guess that's the cruel reality of suffering a season-ending knee injury. I've seen talk of him being moved to tight end, and I just don't understand all that. He's a good pass rushing prospect. Typical tough player, who has a great motor.
The thing I question with Powell, will be if he has the same burst he had prior to his awful injury. Regardless, I think he'll be okay. I really like McCallister and Fowler (he's a natural pass rusher) at Buck. I just can't see Muschamp, as smart as he is, moving one of the team's best pass rushing options to SSDE. That just doesn't make sense. I wouldn't assume that Cox is just going to be another Lerentee McCray. Nobody knows how he'll develop. One thing about the Saban coaching tree, is that they do a tremendous job of finding those talented three-star gets, and great coaching turns them into very good players.
Between McCallister, Cox, Sherit and Fowler I disagree on the idea that this staff hasn't brought in pass rushers. I think we're fine.

The extra year is good, just in case of injury over the next few years. Not because he will lack the opportunity to play.
Just too many great option next year on the DL. We will be fast and fresh the entire game and rotate a full 8 DLinemen if not more.

I have a hard time finding Sherit a position on defense looking at his body and how he plays. It just seems like he would be a better fit for TE. Plus coming off a knee injury I dont really see him getting much action until his redshirt sophomore year.

Again... I never said there weren't any on the team. I said we don't have any this recruiting cycle. RoPo likely won't be ready this year given the extent of his ACL tear and retear. Cox doesn't have elite pass rushing speed but plays the position ala McCray. Sherit isn't going to be an elite pass rusher for a couple years (especially given his ACL tear) if he becomes one in the future it will be in his junior to senior year. Fowler and McCalister are the likeliest to step it up, but Fowler is more a power than a speed guy given his size, and the opposite is true for McCalister, he needs to gain some more weight so he doesn't get pushed around.
Yes we have some 5 stars and some very workable 3 stars on the team. But that wasn't my point. All I was saying is we didn't get one this cycle.

I agree with him being more of a natural "bandit"/weakside DE. However, he may wind up at the Buck position, or the staff may ask him to add another 25-30 lbs. to have the necessary weight to be a full-time end. He's the only linemen who doesn't seem to be a natural fit for this defense, but he could turn out to be with added weight.
I definitely wouldn't pencil him in to make any sort of splash this year, though.

Yes, it seems our Dt's are all good ones which means a lot of good help playing.

Right, and my point was that we didn't really have a "need" to bring one in...because of what we already had. If anything, another natural pass rusher-like adding another corner-would've been a luxury; not a need.
But I get where you're coming from. You can never have too many players who can get after the QB, and ideally you'd like to add one each signing period. Also, I'm a bit more optimistic about Powell's return, although the "retear" was indeed a setback. Fowler is a pure pass rusher, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the numbers he puts up this year if he stays healthy.

To go along with what Noah is saying I dont think any of the top pass rushers this year would have beat out who we already have on the roster especially since none of them were EE's. Did we want a top pass rusher ? Yes but it wasn't a need. Next cycle we need to bring in DE's because of future depth issues and we will.

Muschamp had arguably the best Pass Rusher in the country locked up. ElijahDaniel just didn't do his part in the classroom. That sucks.

Aren't there several elite DE/Buck types the Gators are in the mix for in 2014?

Florida is in good position to get more than one elite WDE in 2014.

I am not so sure he is going to get in. They also let Derrick Griffin take an official visit this weekend and he looks to be on his way to JUCO that's why he did not get a LOI from A & M.
