You think Percy and the Pouncy's came because of Tebow? Who got all of them on campus? None of this happens without Urban.

You are correct. Spikes was following Tebow and said as much. I also believe there were others that came because of him. To pretend players don't follow other players is crazy.

Espn did a program on Tims recruitment, he was one of the most heralded prospects ever. That had to have a big impact on other's dicissions.
Anyway, we are talking about Urbs. ON THE FIELD SUCCESS because of Tebow.
WITHOUT HIM ,ALL THE PERCYS AND POUNCEYS IN THE WORLD WOULD NOT MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE....

you do know Percy was the number 1 recruit in the nation that year right?
The on the field success was because of a bunch of players on offense and defense playing in a scheme that fit their skill sets.
Tim was great but he had great players around him. You win game because you evaulate well recruit well and coach well that's what Urban did. The success is his.

I agree with you here. He won titles, no reason to diminish his coaching acumen.

The way I see it, he climbed up the mountain...all the way to the top. He said as much. Regardless of why, he had enough at the top and decided to climb back down. Look for his next stop to be at the University of Miami. Thanks for the good times, Coach! Hope an SEC team (preferably FLORIDA) knocks you on your buckeye in the championship game.

I'm sorry, but this is an absolutely ludicrous assessment. Again, the man has had two undefeated seasons at two completely different schools. He has won wherever he has been. The job he and his staff did during the 2006 national championship run, by fitting the spread offense around Leak's capabilities, and mixing Tebow in with the right situations, was truly one of the most brilliant coaching jobs I've ever seen. Whether you-or anyone else on this board-want to admit that the 2006 team was Leak's or not, it really doesn't matter at all. It was. Tebow was a situational player, who came in to do things Leak couldn't give the offense.
Meyer's system has turned two QBs (Alex Smith and Tebow) into first-round prospects. How many first-round QB's has Spurrier developed? And Braxton Miller will probably be a first-day pick. Meyer is also known as one of the best recruiters in all of college football. Meyer never lost to Tennessee. He never lost to Georgia. He lost only once to FSU. Without Tebow he was still 5-1 against teams considered to be Florida's biggest Rivals. I'll actually say 8-1, because 2006 wasn't even Tebow's team.
How many receivers did Meyer's offense put in the pros? Chad Jackson, Bubba Caldwell, Riley Cooper, Dave Nelson, (TEs Hernandez and Ingram), Harvin (brilliantly used more at running back), Louis Murphy, Deonte Thompson, and I'm not even going to talk about the offensive linemen. TEBOW DID NOT MAKE MEYER.

Urban was sick, he was incapacitated. When you feel sick and your under alot of pressure, sometimes the world seems like it is closing in on you. Someone once told me when you are thirsty, you feel like you can drink an ocean, when a glass of water will satisfy you.
Urban took his time off, felt better (temporarily), and got the coaching bug again. I don't think he lied about being ill. IMO, when push came to shove, he bs'd us about how he could never coach anywhere else. He didn't have the energy or desire to rebuild our program. He took the easy way out and went to OSU, where he would have some slack from the fans, due to Tressel sanctions. When he rejuveneated himself, he jumped at the first chance he had to coach again. IMO, the reasons he left us will resurface at OSU.

My bad, Meyer actually did lose once to Georgia. Ironically, it was during the season that Tebow won the Heisman.

We are not talking about what meyer did at other schools, (not the sec) we are talking about what he did at UF, we are not talking about Spurrier, no one is saying that what he did is not what you and I would do, (Benifitted from a couple of great class's from Zook) he rode a racehorsre to the end and called it QUITS.

Urban's gone - he now coaches for a team that most of us despise. He coaches in another conference, he is no longer a Gator, end of story.
He recruits against us and he'll one day coach against us too. So, get over it/him - he works for the enemy now.
I hope we hang a C-note on him and his team if we ever play them in a bowl.
One more thing: He was/is a great coach, but don't even try and use that to mitigate his past lies.
He quit on Gator Nation.......... We never quit on him.

No, you're not talking about what Meyer did at other schools. I am. Because the examples I just gave illustrate that the man can flat-out coach. But it sounds like you're refusing to actually give Meyer any credit where he actually deserves it.
If you're going to say that Zook's recruiting was what Meyer's initial success was a result of, you can play that card with almost any coach who has had massive second-year success. You could say the same thing about the loaded defense that Muschamp "rode" this season to eleven wins.

Again, nobodys saying he can't coach, he took advantage of what was left to him as you or i would do, but the fact is HE RODE A RACEHORSE TO THE END, THERE WAS NO CAM NEWTON TO STEP UP AND HE QUIT....

The funny thing is that Tebow keeps in weekly contact with Meyer. Seems some maladjusted Gator fans could learn a thing or two.

They had a very good and personal relationship. Too bad some more of Tebow didn't rub off on UM.

So . . . who recruited Johnny . . . to not run the spread ?
Makes no sense.
