Yes. Based on its closeness to the field. The fans are right on top of the sidelines. The endzones overhang close to the field..there's no place for sound to go

Many stadiums have open areas...or their second and third levels span away from the field.

Its a unique place...and its the greatest venue on the planet.

If every stadium was at its absolute loudest I think LSU and UF maybe a tie

What about Bryant Denny?

I have been to most of the venues throughout the SEC (and ACC) both in the stands and on the field.
And, without a doubt... The Swamp IS the loudest!
Especially... on the field.
I have been to Death Valley over in Baton Rouge and of all the venues...they do come closest... but there are times that BHG is absolutely numbing...
...especially on field level. It is like the sound just builds and floats down to the ground. It got so loud at the '97 FSU game that I could not even hear the guy right next to me. He had to put his hands around my ears to tell me he was going to get something to drink.

1. Closeness of the stands to the field (no track). And our stands do not bow out at the 50 yard line. Check out Bama's to see the difference.
2. Angle of the stands to the very top... much steeper than most stadiums.
3. The field is a good 30 feet below street level.

Just imagine if they ever put a sun covering over the West and East Stands?!!!
The sound would become even more trapped!

When you look at other stadiums like at Tennesee and Alabama... their venues are much more open... further away from the field, etc.

My top four in the SEC & ACC would be:
1. Florida Field
2. Death Valley at Baton Rouge
3. Auburn
4. Clemson
5. FSU... maybe...

I wonder if The Swamp being partially underground (built into a sinkhole) helps its loudness. Maybe that sounds dumb.

For my money, the loudest stadium is LSU, but the fans factor as much into the equation as the stadium design does. When you have a stadium that holds it in; fans that want it; and football team that wants it...you're going to have a loud crowd.

Our home crowds were pretty bad for a while, then came South Carolina 2006, you could feel the passion for which people wanted to see Coach Meyer deal Coach Spurrier a loss.

The loudest crowd I can recall experiencing was LSU in 1997. They had a long stretch of mediocrity, but supported their team until they had the opportunity to knock off the #1 team in the nation and the "defending national champions."

Alabama (in my opinion) was louder in 2005 before construction completed than they were in 2010, and that's because they wanted it that much more back then as they were still rising up from the ashes.

The bottom line is that it's more than just about the stadium design, you have to factor in the situation and what it means to the home fans.

LSU in 1997 was the only time I've ever been in an opposing stadium and looked around and said to myself, "this is incredible." SWAC was loud in 1994 (4th quarter) and 1996 (echo of the echo of the echo of the whistle), but nothing like LSU in 1997. Neither of those stadiums have been remotely close to that since.

The SWAMP rocked much, much more in the 90's, and I think at least part of that was due to the attitude of the head coach.

Go GATORS!

I agree with lots of what you said, although I have to give it a tie between LSU and BHG on loudness. The 90s were out peak on 'consistent' deafening loudness. EVERY home game in the 90s were louder than recent times.

Now the part I do have to disagree with you is the part I bolded--for my money, LSU is the steepest thing I've ever seen. Back in 93 I went to watch us demolish LSU 58-3 in Baton Rouge....first time in that stadium. We had seats just two rows from the top, in one of the upper decks. It was damn near a vertical climb--no, we weren't overly buzzed to make matters worse than they were--just a very sober realization that climbing those steps to get to our seats was dangerous. Scary dangerous. WAY too steep for my likings, and as compared to BHG it seemed much, MUCH steeper over there.

I don't disagree, but you're talking about an upper deck that was placed on top of a lower deck. Most of Tiger stadium is not nearly that steep. Whereas, BHG is one continuous climb from field level to the very top. Plus, it is solid concrete all the way around with only two gaps in corners of the north endzone.

At LSU in 1997 was probably the loudest I've heard.

The loudest I remember our stadium being recently was the early Debose TD against Bama.

I was speaking specifically about the upper decks over at LSU. Lower level isn't nearly as steep as those upper decks. As far as loudest "potential"--when the stadium/fans are as loud as they can possibly be...I give the nod slightly to The Swamp, due to those reasons you mentioned. But there have only been a few times since the 90s that The Swamp reached its peak, as compared to seemingly every single game back then.

Either way, BOTH ours and LSU are without debate the two loudest stadiums in the country when all things are working right.

1997 was special even by Swamp standards when we beat FSU. It was the loudest I ever heard.

LSU seems to be the next loudest stadium I've been to/heard. Auburn didn't seem to me to be all that loud, but certainly respectable.
