I don't know if you have ever been involved with anyone on Medicare, but too much control by the government is not a problem for those receiving care. My dear republican mother - now deceased - was, like a lot republican voters, on Medicare and NEVER was denied a procedure, or even hassled about one. There was one test that was probably a waste of her time and Medicare dollars, and we were fortunate - in more ways than one - that her passing did not entail excessive life saving efforts. She went peacefully and surrounded by family, and both she and we were very thankful that she had Medicare. Go check what they think about it in The Villages, that hotbed of Palin and Scott rallies.

Underlined portion tells more of the whole story. Sure, there are insurance companies who are total jerks and hurt people. Then, there are folks like those in the Villages who obviously didn't do any research on the total cost of owning a golf cart of their choosing:

"However, he said he had no idea it would cost him more to insure than a car."
DOH!
We agree as voters as to what our contract with the government is. Of course en mass decisions have en mass results, a definite drawback, but many important things - like armies, highways, and medical care of the old and indigent - not done in en mass never happen.

No, absolutely not. Every individual should be entitled to the most expensive and cutting edge medical technology to extend their lives regardless if its overall efficacy. When it comes to medical care, money is no object right?!?! There is no such thing as a free lunch . . . unless that lunch comes from a hospital cafeteria. Then apparently there is no cost or resource associated with it. It's in endless supply.

If you contribute your whole life to Social Security and Medicare you should get the medical attention that you need.

there really should be a serious discussion about end of life care

the US Gov is an extension of the people, and if we can't afford the increasing costs of health care, partially due to the large chuck coming from end of life care that doesn't achieve much, then it needs to be put on the table

there should be some sort of privatized insurance service for certain end of life care to temporarily prologue life

sounds good in theory, but then you can't bitch about that portion of Medicare which is in large part responsible for its rising costs

Rowe, assuming you listened to Dr. Carson's entire prayer bfast speech, what did you think of his health savings account concept - get the huge and expensive government bureaucracy out of healthcare? Oh, and what do you think of the concept of shielding doctors who provide services to subsidized patients from malpractice litigation to keep the medical costs of the subsidized patient to a minimum? If you don't like not being able to sue your doctor, get a job and pay for your own healthcare. And why should old people suffer the brunt of our dysfunctional healthcare system. Instead of delivering the babies of teenagers on medicaid why don't we just put the mother down. That would save on healthcare and prison costs and we wouldn't need to increase taxes.

I was going to continue with even more extreme ideas, none of which I support, just to encourage some of you to give some real thought of what could happen when you give an inefficient, bankrupt and power hungry government monopoly control over your healthcare.
