2012's team vs 2013's team by position
Can someone break down the position gains and reductions from last years team? For example (I don't know if this is correct but..
WR
lost 2 from last years team due to seniors, transfers, ect
Gained 5 from this years recruiting class

QB- no one other than Trey and Jeff has attempted a pass at the college level- regardless of performance Driskel will start unless injured. This is the position of biggest need for next years class.

QB - Lost Brissett, added Staver
RB - Lost Gillislee & Johnson, added Taylor & Lane
WR - Lost Hammond, Hines & Alli, added Robinson, Fulwood, Hawkins, Bailey & Thompson
TE - Lost Reed
OL - Lost Nixon, Wilson, Robey & Jordan, added Garcia, Moore, Brown, Dillard, Johnson & Jackson
DT - Lost Floyd, Hunter & Alajajian, added Cummings, Reed, Brantley, Bostwick, Riles & Ivie
DE - Lost Okine & Johnson, added Sherit
LB - Lost Bostic, McCray & Jenkins, added McMillian, Anzalone, Davis & Rolin
S - Lost Elam, Evans & Saunders, added Harris, Neal & Washington
CB - Added Hargreaves
We had BIG holes at RB, WR, OL, DT, & LB and nailed every one of them. Not only did we get the numbers we needed but looks like we got equal or better talent at each position.

Ahab, thank you.
so to break it down further...
QB even- Lost Brissett, added Staver
RB - plus 1 because Johnson hardly played right?- Lost Gillislee & Johnson, added Taylor & Lane
WR -plus 2- Lost Hammond, Hines & Alli, added Robinson, Fulwood, Hawkins, Bailey & Thompson
TE -minus 1- Lost Reed
OL - plus 3 because jordan hardly played right? Lost Nixon, Wilson, Robey & Jordan, added Garcia, Moore, Brown, Dillard, Johnson & Jackson
DT - plus 3 because isn't one of the freshmen redshirting because of injury? Lost Floyd, Hunter & Alajajian, added Cummings, Reed, Brantley, Bostwick, Riles & Ivie
DE - even because powel comes back-Lost Okine & Johnson, added Sherit
LB - plus 1-Lost Bostic, McCray & Jenkins, added McMillian, Anzalone, Davis & Rolin
S - even-Lost Elam, Evans & Saunders, added Harris, Neal & Washington
CB -plus 1- Added Hargreaves
so basically our team will be deeper at most positions

No doubt but we need more Grier looks good but the lack of big comp scares me a lot, additionally we have no one with experience this year other than JD and who is gonna push him and or come in if he doesn't improve?

I'd rate the positions for 2013 compared to 2012 as such:
Better at QB - Driskel should be better but have no experienced backup now.
Worse at RB - Gillislee was a workhorse. Add two talented RB but don't know when they'll be ready.
Better at WR - Hope to see improvement from existing players and that we get lucky with a freshman.
Worse at TE - Really need Taylor & Thompson to step up.
Better at OL - The transfers should help. Good mix of experience and young talent.
Worse at DT - Floyd was a stud & Hunter had a good senior year. The JUCOs should help fill the gap.
Better at DE - Powell is back plus Fowler & Bullard should blossom.
Worse at LB - Not much experience returning. Will have to rely on young guys for PT.
Worse at S - Lost our top 3 and backups haven't played much. Need young guys to emerge.
Better at CB - Everyone returns plus add the #1 CB recruit.

I would put Riles & Ivie at DE instead of DT. I know they could move inside, but I think if they are to see the filed it will be at DE this season.
Everything else is pretty spot on.

You really think those guys are greater than or equal to Elam and Bostic?

I like Bostic and all but I'd hope we got at least equal value. Agreed on Elam, it's going to be a long time before we see the likes of him.

I don't think the freshmen are equal talent right now but they definitely have that level of potential. I was really rating them as groups. I think McMillian, Anzalone, Davis & Rolin stack up well to Bostic, McCray & Jenkins.

This happens every year, younger guys mature and play better. Every year you wonder how you are going to replace people, and sure, soemtimes you'll never replace certain special people, (Harvin, Tebow), but other position players have tremendous impact and things just keep rolling on. Looks like we are stocked overall, better at some postions, not so much at others. Things have a way of working out, and other guys step in and step it up.

I don't think you can discount guys who didn't play in lieu of guys who have never played in this estimate.

We also have some redshirts who have talent and are bigger/stronger this year who could contribute. If we can come up with 3-4 first year contributors this year like last year, we ought to be pretty good. CWM believes the SEC is a line of scrimmage league and we're big and deep on both sides of the ball. 11 wins might be hard to duplicate but I do see us beating UGA and USCe and playing Bama in Atlanta. I see our 2013 success based upon keeping Driskel healthy enough to be a running threat, a receiver or two stepping up and our young RB's contributing in the RB by committee mode.

Bostic, was good but I could see us upgrading, Elam (and to a lesser extent Evans) are much bigger holes- freshman regardless of talent level need time to mature and gain experience- other than QB, safety is probably the most experience dependent position on the field- look how our safeties jumped from 2007 to 2008-- we could experience something similar next season but this year big plays might happen.

Wow. Not sure where to begin. At RB, not to mention the guys coming in, Matt Jones is a stud. If Jones continues to improve, we will be much better.
LB. Did you forget about Morrison? He might have been better than our starting guys. Also forgot to mention Ball and Taylor. Both look solid and should continue to improve.
At Safety, Brian Poole looks to be a stud.

I think we are undefeated until the LSU game. If we can win in death valley against LSU, then we will be undefeated headed into the SECCG. I think we have good chance to beat 11 wins this year. Thoughts???
