Unhappy Arkansas Road Game Box Score MVG: Michael Frazier II

Michael Frazier II was a lone bright spot in an otherwise frustrating road loss to the the Arkansas Razorbacks, 69-80. Frazier scored 11 points and pulled down 9 rebounds with 1 steal and no turnovers for 73 value credits. Scottie Wilbekin scored 14 points, had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 turnovers for 57 value credits. Michael Rosario led the Gators in scoring with 15 points along with 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers to get a solid 51 value credits.

The Razorbacks played as if they were the 2nd ranked team and took it to the Gators pulling to a quick 23 point lead early in the game and never looked back. They played a 9-man rotation, out hustling Florida and consistently hitting open shots from the perimeter, in the paint and off Gator turnovers. The 11 point margin at game end did not reflect how significantly the Razorbacks dominated the game and how much they bothered the Gators with their quickness and agressive physical play. Arkansas put on a real show for their home town hog fans putting up a whopping 80 points on a Gator defense that had only be giving up an average of 51 points per game.

The Gators have several days of fun practice to work out their kinks before playing a home game against Mississippi State where they hope to regain their form after a lackluster performance in Fayetteville

So does Frazier make the 7th or 8th different player to lead in this metric for a game this year?

Wilbekin with 15 FGA is not a recipe for success.

Just from watching the game, I would say that Rosario was our best player. He stayed calm and collected while our other guys were losing it.

He missed a handful of easy ones. He had 4 or 5 misses inside the lane. If a few of them go in at the start, it might have been a much better game.

I agree that Rosario was our best player by far last night. Frazier came in and knocked down some 3s and rebounded well but Rosario kept trying to spark us with baskets. Shot 50% from the field. It really is a tossup between Frazier and Rosario and I think it is erroneous to say Frazier was the lone bright spot.

Of everyone, Wilbekin took the most number of shots (5-15, 14 pts) & missed a few critical ones (close range as well as from outside) when he was open! Bad games can happen I guess. I wished Frazier would have gotten more than 5 shot attempts & played earlier minutes during the 1st half. One or all of the starting guards should have sat down briefly (to get their bearings or something) during the Arkansas fury! Could Prather have guarded BJ Young? Or Boynton play more PG when Wilbekin struggled during the first half? Maybe play Patric Young more in the first half even with his foul trouble.

During the first half Arkansas run, I wouldn't have minded if Donovan burned multiple time outs (2-3 of them if necessary) just to settle his team down or get a different energy out of the players. The announcers were saying (by not calling a time-out) that perhaps Donovan wanted his veteran players to figure things out for themselves but if this was an NCAA tourney game...Let's just say that it doesn't help a team to try to save all of their time-outs for a second half if your team is already out of the game or not being competitive.

Florida played valiantly in trying to make a come back in the second half - at times, the gators were down as much as 25 pts before closing the final gap to 11 pts! But, a loss is a loss! Florida has to get better in the next game (& hopefully beat Kentucky & the other stronger teams, too).
