JUCO vs Prep School

Can someone explain the difference?

The way I understand it prep school is essentially an additonal year of HS that doesn't count toward your elligibility and is only one year whereas JUCO counts as two years of your elligibility. Why do some kids go to one vs the other? Is it that JUCO players have a ton more ground to make up academically? Are there certain requirements to attend a prep school?

There's a big difference between the type of school they are. It's not quite as clear as to why a player would go one route or the other. My guess is that you go to prep school to give yourself another year to get a qualifying test score. You go to JUCO if you don't expect to ever get a qualifying score.

I have no idea, but I would think that in addition to the test score issue, prep school also cost a few more bucks. Of course, maybe they all get schollies to prep school also and money isnt a factor.

What Strange said, plus Juco is more suited for players that still have to pass required High School core classes to become qualified (or improve their grades). Prep school has classes that actually insruct you on how to perform better on the SAT or ACT which will help them meet NCAA requirements.

The way I understand it, Prep School option is when you only have one or two things to get up to NCAA standards that can be done in a fall semester vs JUCO, you have a lot to make up, as patsy listed, like taking core classes over and it takes more than one semester to do it.
