During the Norm Sloan era? Yes, I think we probably did. In fact I'm almost positive we did. I met Vernon Maxwell about a week after the Sweet 16 and he was HAMMERED!!!!! He was telling us all kinds of stories but because he was hammered, I don't really know how much of it I believed.
But Charley Pell was brought in to elevate Florida football at any cost and I think Norm Sloan was brought in to do the same for basketball. Both did what they were hired to do. And we suffer probation for both. I don't know about Kruger or Donovan.
The one thing that would lead me to believe Donovan hasn't is that so many of the kids he built his program around weren't the flashy and high-ego type. They were more blue collar hard workers. And the guys on the 2006-2007 teams weren't his highest-rated recruits. Those guys just gelled.

I specifically said "That doesn't mean it's not cheating or that it's right". I completely agree the Bama cheats and the instance you gave is probably a violation. But what's different is that, in my opinion, Bama wasn't doing something to sway a kid's decision or level the playing field, but trying to get a kid who wanted to come to Bama qualified. It's still cheating and Bama should be punished ... but they probably won't.
I think we've beaten this dead horse enough. Bottom line is that I think Treadwell and the other 8 guys who don't fit Ole Miss' recruiting pattern are VERY suspicious and you don't. Let's just leave it at that.

The kid had zero shot to qualify you cant take a commit from a kid like that. Other schools wanted the kids but they were not about to cross the line so he could get in their school.
Who are these 8 kids you are talking about?

I've mentioned them a few times. All the kids that likely end up in this class that are not from Mississippi, an adjacent state or a JUCO that they will likely sign:
5 Stars:
Nkemdiche (Don't question him)
Treadwell
Tunsil
4 Stars:
Adeboyejo
Daniel
3 Stars:
Morgan
Engram
Hill
Kincade
The fact that there will likely be at least 9 kids in this class that don't fit their recruiting profile. I'm not saying these guys were all illegally recruited but this is the huge red flag for me.
Jones and Conner wouldn't surprise me as they are both from MS and even Golson is from an adjacent state.

Billy's early classes consisted of guys like J Will (coached him at Marshall) and Dupay (FL product) then Brent Wright and Haslem from Miami and under recruited area at the time and when UM BB was nonexistent. All very good players, which developed the foundation no issues until Mike Miller. Because he was a high profile recruit from another state and BD was competing with the big boys. The NCAA looked into the program and I believe found nothing (rare, they will usually find something). We were already pretty good. What they found was BD was doing things like waiting in his car parked across the street of the kid's house until 12:01 midnight (first day of contact). Agressive, yes, did it piss people like Roy Williams at Kansas off because RW was above trying so hard, yes, was it illegal or cheating, no. We then had a great deal of success in the late 90's and early 2000's and further built on that.

A lot of those "old Bowden finishes" were because of Ronnie Cottrell as RC, who was expert at sterring FSU's more "influential" boosters to the kids Bowden wanted most, even during the dead period before NSD where they knew the other coaches couldn;t get to them anymore.
Then the $$$ started flowing and the player mailed in his LOI to FSU.

ok lets go down the list
Treadwell had a friend there they got him on campus
Tunsil- I will give you
Adeboyejo - from texas has no big Texas offers where should he go?
Daniel- he wanted to play inn the SEC he was down to Miss State and Ole Miss. Now please tell me how that doesnt fit the Ole Miss recruit a kid with terrible grades
Morgan- again NO TEXAS OFFER its the closest place with decent football his sister has a volleyball offer there. The parents want to see both kids play.
Engram Ole miss is by far his best offer
Hill- look at his offer list
Kincade- dont know anything about him

Exactly. Donovan came in and established the winning with guys that nobody else really wanted. He was already winning before the really big high-profile recruits started coming in.

As far as Ramsey....
Luke Stampini touched on this earlier............said UF did this to ourselves because we didn't contact him in June and July, no offer or FNL invite, and Pruitt was working the family hard while at Alabama.
I know for a fact that is nonsense, UF has been on this kid for a while despite his long time commitment to USC, and regardless of what you people think his dad is an FSU proponent, mainly because of playing time. Everyone on the staff believes if it was solely up to Ramsey he would be a Gator. No one ever said he was selling Jalen for money....some of you guys elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. If I was his dad I would have to consider playing time for my son too, in regards to our depth shirt.
I will say this, it is not over yet, staff is still in contact, but at this point things are indeed bleak.
|
I'm pretty sure he got reported. His elementary antics are tiresome. Puts people on the ignore list and then continues to throw shots at them like he's some tough guy. I'd say what I think about him but I'll get a vacation from the mods so ill be nice. Be nice to meet him at a game though.

My bad you're correct on that but sending text messages to another phone kills the privacy defense.
