Agree. Both Sherman Oaks and Studio City are cool places, with good bars and restaurants and not far from Hollywood. I like Sherman Oaks as it's pretty central to a lot of areas, especially if you need to head towards Encino, Tarzana or Woodland Hills.

I've spent enough time in LA to know that I'd find it fascinating to live there, but never dared dream that I'd actually wind up there.

Sorry to hear this. I'm going through the most difficult breakup of my life...stay strong. Glad to hear you're trying new things.

Thanks, John. It is difficult, especially sad since we were married for 24 years and had a child together. But we saw it coming for a long time and I'd like to think that much of the grieving is out of the way. Plus, I'm excited to pursue life afresh.

Update: found a tiny but fully-furnished one-bedroom apartment in Pasadena. It's located in the same, leafy neighborhood where they filmed the movie Halloween. It's just blocks from the Rose Bowl and I can look out my bathroom window and see snow-capped mountains.
My new neighbors all raise chickens, I can hear flocks of parrots (yes, parrots) flying overhead and the lemons in the yard are the size of grapefruits. But they have to coop their chickens at night because the coyotes come out.
I also have a couple of promising leads on jobs I can do temporarily while building up a fitness clientele.
I could be out their permanently in four to six weeks. Just have some loose ends to tie up before I go.

LA certainly is more fitness-conscious than any city I've ever visited. There is almost literally a fitness center, Pilates or yoga studio on every block. Not infrequently, you'll see all three on a single block.
And Santa Monica is talking about imposing fees on fitness trainers who take up park property training three of more clients at a time on the basis that it takes up public space and inhibits pedestrian traffic.

I know 6 people who live in LA, 3 of them are software engineers, but the other three are fitness trainers(2 Pilates and 1 yoga).

I miss living in So-Cal. I lived in Santa Monica, Hermosa Beach, and Hollywood in the LA area.
I have also lived in Huntington Beach and San Diego (Pacific Beach) for brief periods.
Did you look into Orange County at all?

Truth is, I didn't search for very long before falling into a sweetheart deal, in Pasadena. But as that's likely temporary, I wouldn't rule out The O.C.

Is that sort of like a sugar daddy deal?

There's good beer in CA, too! Bear Republic and Russian River make some of my favorite beers up North from you, so you can find them on your beer/grocery store shelves.
Within driving distance, albeit a bit of a trek, you can cruise down to the Stone Brewery in Escondido. If you ever go down to San Diego for any reason, it's a nice stop on the scenic route back up to LA. Very cool place, and Stone makes fine beers!
I'm envious. Best of luck on your next chapter, and have fun exploring!

There is a scene where they are planning the heist and showing pictures of some of the people that live or work in The Tower and how they have to avoid them. The planning gets sidetracked for a moment when someone mentions that one of the women is a lesbian and she has been having an affair with one of the other women that work there. So someone asks if they are avoiding lesbians. Eddie Murphy's character chimes in that he doesn't avoid lesbians, he seeks them out and goes on to describe how certain body parts of lesbians are nicer because women are more gentle while men are more apt to be groping. His description is more graphic as I'm sure you can imagine. I guess it remains to be seen if there is a lesson in that for you.

Won't take much prodding to venture to SD. One of my favorite places.
