"In Obama’s Illinois, FBI statistics show 377 gun murders for 2011. Of the 370 gun murders for which a type of weapon has been identified, 364 were handguns, 5 were shotguns, and just one was a rifle. Even assuming that the single rifle used in that Illinois murder were one of those military-style weapons the president seeks to ban, then assault rifles would constitute less than a quarter of a percent of all Illinois murders. By way of comparison, Illinois murderers used fists and other body parts to kill seventeen people in 2011."

The whack job left media in my area was singing the praises of a recent NJ gun buyback in the Trenton area. Problem is that few of the guns returned are used by gangs or for most murders. So much media hype. Where would the left be without it? Astroturf baby!

Universal background checks would make criminals of individual private sellers. An underground economy of off the books barter and trades in firearms is sure to develop.

More people drowned in 2010 than every terrorist attack and mass murder over the last 13 years combined. Maybe we should have background checks of every person with a swimming pool and ban pools deeper than 3 feet.
