I love this team, but worry about them come tourney time once they hit the Sweet 16.
There'll be some physical teams that don't allow us to get our shot off from the perimeter and we'll have to be really good closer into the basket. This team thrives on 3-pointers and layups, and isn't one of the best with designed plays for inside the paint. Nor are we great FT shooters.
We'll have our work cut out for us if we get a team that's physical and plays smart defense. I'm not worried about defending anyone.

The only way one could improve the conference situation is to switch conferences.
So, to which conference do the Gators, one of the most geographically southern and Eastern teams in the Nation go, other than the South Eastern Conference.

The 2 things that set us apart:
1. Who can match up with Murphy? IMO, he is one of, if not the, most difficult players to guard in the country.
2. Upperclassmen/defensive commitment.
It is possible we get in a dog fight against a tough team, probable even. Just have a gut feeling that KB is on a mission.

What kind of designed plays for the paint do you have in mind? We Young and Murphy a ton of looks on the blocks. Wilbekin and Beal both run the pick and roll well and that results in some good shots for Young and Yeguete. Boynton has that jump stop, Wilbekin has his floater, and Rosario has a nice runner. We don't run a ton of isos for individual players and we don't do much out of the high post, as we did in the past with Wright and Noah, but I don't see that phase of our game as weak at all. Turnovers bother me far more.

I hate the SEC sucks in basketball argument. We have 3 of the last 7 NCs for starters. Are we the greatest basketball conference ever assembled? No, but neither are the other conferences. There is no real hierarchy in college basketball among conferences like in football for the most part IMO.
I guess I'm just curious what makes SEC so bad? Is it poor coaching? Billy Donovan, John Calipari, Frank Martin, and Anthony Grant all reside here. Is it talent? The SEC is fourth among the BCS conferences in NBA draft picks over the last ten years (One that is ahead is the previously 18 team league Big East). Like I mentioned before, is it lack of championships? The SEC can lay claim to 3 of the last 7. Who else can?
There are reasons that the SEC dominates in football. The SouthEast is hands down the best region for recruiting in the country. D-line play is unrivaled. The money/facilities/commitment to football excellence in the SEC is 2nd to none. The best coaches are in the SEC. Steve Spurrier (UF years), Nick Saban, Urban Meyer (UF years) have all had historic runs over the past 20 years in the SEC. What other conference has even had two coaches of that calibur during that span.
I guess I'm just curious, what does the SEC not have in basketball that the powerhouse big 12, pac 12, or big 10 have for example?

If ESPN were in Birmingham or Atlanta or Tampa instead of Connecticut SEC basketball would be a lot better

Anybody that uses RPI as a metric for quality of a team is brain dead. Once I hear arguments based on RPI ranking I know that either I am dealing with a nitwit or I am dealing with someone grasping at straws to "win" a losing position.
Kenpom or Sagarin Predictor have been proven to be FAR superior over RPI for lots of years of data for predicting future success.
"Scoreboard" is 100% for predicting things that have already happened.

Or if we got Anthony Bennett? He's averaging something like 19pts/9reb for UNLV as a frosh. He'd fill the only role kinda missing on the team, small forward. Prather is sort of there, but Bennett is just a whole other level.

Bennett plays mostly four and some five at UNLV. I don't see how he could have played the three for us. He has no handle, he can't run a pick and roll, and he doesn't pass the ball. Good spot up shooter, great around the rim, outstanding post player, all of which would have made him an ideal four in this system.
But I like the guy we have right now.

The Big 12 and the Pac-12 aren't exactly basketball powerhouses. The Big 12 has Kansas and nothing else, while the Pac-12 has been awful for a while now (although it's mediocre this season). The SEC is bad this season, but it's usually a decent basketball conference. It was the #3 conference in the RPI last year.
The fact that Middle Tennessee is our second best RPI win isn't exactly a problem. They do have an RPI of 26.

Conferences are driven by football. Just deal with it. I hate it. It has NOTHING to do with basketball.
It just sucks that UK's on-and-dones are not so good this year, the Vols and Dawgs have cheated recently and are still suffering, Vandy had all their good players leave, LSU sucks when they usually have at least an OK team, etc. This Gator team would dominate a good SEC and yet we have a weak slate this year. Damn.
