Rankings are not important until NCAA Tournament Selection time and after the NCAA tournament. Until then, they are nothing much other than rough indices of a team's Win/Loss percentage.

Yeah, but if you can't play well in a high profile game that doesnt bode well for your team down the stretch.

Sure, they're pointless, but they are great PR for a program.

The irony of this "we have to beat team X" is that by their logic the season was essentially over when we lost to Zona and Kansas State. I mean, after all, aren't those the types of teams we will play in the tournament?
